Meet Alexis Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Walker.

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out as a biology major, my love for science led me into skincare. I’ve always had a thing for healthy skin and makeup even way back in college. I enrolled in esthetics school at Elaine Sterling Institute in early 2020 right before the pandemic. I was intrigued with how parallel skincare was with life sciences.

My biology background prepared me for my career in esthetics. 4 months into my program, I was blessed with the idea of a product line. I was suffering from mask-ne from the new covid precautions, which eventually developed into a skin condition. I considered this a challenge. I was able to create an organic product line to help clear skin conditions such as mine. Once I completed the esthetics program, I went on to complete several courses in ethnic skin, eyelash extensions, and advanced skin care techniques. My focus and main goal became to create customized skin treatments that cater to the needs of my community. The added bonus was making people look and feel beautiful from the inside out and educating on self-care and wellness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about this has been easy or smooth by any means. I went from being a biology major at 17 to losing my dad to cancer in 1 year. Depression and anxiety almost took over my everyday life. I took time off to practice self-care, heal and turned to my interest to the beauty industry. When I started Esthetics school at the beginning of 2020, I had no idea the impact Covid19 would have on my life, all of our lives. I was evicted from my home, homeless with my daughter, had multiple family members pass away, and missed several days of school. But I found a way to persevere and graduate at the top of my class with a product line. Once I fully started AM Esthetics, I learned a lot of things the hard way. Such as what it takes to run and operate a service-based business, starting a business bank account, paying yourself, maintaining a work-life balance and being a full-time mom. The journey has not been smooth, but I’m grateful for it! This journey I’m on requires prayer, hard work, trust in God, and belief in myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Esthetician & Skincare Therapist operating AM Esthetics. I provide mobile customized skincare treatments and hair removal services. I am also the owner of Organic Skincare Company, AM Skincare. I specialize in Facials & Intimate Waxing.

I’m best known for Brazilian Wax, Dermaplane Facials, & my organic Turmeric-Manuka Honey Body Bars. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in just two years. Opening and operating my own business through many hiccups & setbacks, helping other young estheticians along the way, & setting a positive example for my daughter. I believe what sets me apart is my knowledge and understanding, vision/creativity/faith. My knowledge and understanding of the skin. I’ve studied the life and skin sciences for more than five years.

My vision/creativity/faith pushed me to create products from scratch, down to the ingredients, recipes, marketing, advertising, & total business plans, with no prior knowledge. Lastly, I strive to create a calm, soothing environment while in skincare sessions. I completely cater to my clients with customized skin care treatments.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I easily get nervous before every client, and always ask God for courage and healing hands before each service.
