Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivory Reid-Tolbert.
Ivory, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In my professional career, I have worked for mostly government agencies, IRS, US Corps of Engineers and now the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. I have worked the finance, procurement, administration and program support. Although I work in the business sector and my degree is in business management, I have always had a passion for all things artistic.
I learned to sew at very young age. My mother showed me how to read and make patterns because it was my responsibility to make my doll clothes. Growing up I took dance, piano lessons, learned to crochet and macramé.
I wanted to start a business which provided a service and combined my knowledge, skills, and passion. Art in all forms are vital to our physical and psychological wellness. They promote positive reactions which are conscious and subconscious within participants.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A challenge we have encountered was to have a library of designs that customers would like to paint. I have developed templates but I did not have the variety I wanted to start my business. I have designed templates and continue to add personal designs monthly but in the meantime, I have also partnered with a company named Social Artworking with designs by Decoart. They provided many of the designs and art supplies we use.
