Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Gary.
Hi Natasha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing hair when I was about thirteen years old. I told my uncle that I wanted to one day own my own beauty salon. We had just moved to Washington D.c. my uncle was looking for someone to braid his hair every two weeks. So after I told him I wanted to learn how to braid and do hair, he came over the next day with a bag full of hair supplies. I asked my mom to order me a Manikin head for my birthday so she did. A practice on the mannequin head for weeks and asked my cousins to teach me how to braid. One day I was practicing and I braided it and I was so excited. My uncle came over every two weeks for me to braid his hair and that’s when it all started. I then noticed that I had a special talent for all things beauty. Then I started getting into brows and cluster lashes. Then, later on moved to lash extensions. I’m a single mother who worked 40 hrs a week and that was just enough to barely make it by. I eventually decided that I wanted to start a side hustle, not knowing that one day I would end up getting my LLC. Thanks to a good friend of mine, Rome for letting me work in her shop in Statesboro GA where I am from. Now I have just finished school to get my master’s of Cosmetology License. This opportunity allowed me to be a better person for myself and my family. Now I plan on opening up my own shop soon. My advice to anyone is if you have a goal, don’t ever give up on your dream. Anything is possible as long as you believe. All you need is patience and a game plan.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely was not smooth but I will say it was very Interesting. Going to school and being a single mom was hard. Making time for my children, my businesses and school made my schedule very busy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in lash extensions and microblading/shading which is tattoo eyebrows that last up to three years. I am mostly known for eyelashes extensions. When I first learned how to do lashes, I would stay up all hours of the night and practice on my mannequin head or watch Tutorials on YouTube until the sun came up in the morning. It wasn’t easy in fact I remember almost giving up because I thought it was too tedious to do and my lashes weren’t turning out quite how I wanted them to but I didn’t give up. I am proud of my accomplishments that I have achieved so far. I am proud of myself for not giving up because if I would have I wouldn’t be where I am today and I wouldn’t change that for the world. What sets me apart from others is my kind heart and my understanding. Also how caring I am and the love that I show all of my clients because I really appreciate them supporting my business because at the end of the day they are what keeps me motivated and keep me going.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprisingly that most people don’t know about me is that when I invested in myself, I looked at it as a risk to take because I didn’t know if I would be successful in doing lashes or not I just had faith. I didn’t know if the investment would help me make my money back or even make money at all.
