Conversations with Eternity Mitchell (E 4 Eternity)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eternity Mitchell (E 4 Eternity).

Tell us how where your love for art began.
Love by Keyshia Cole was the first song I remember singing around the time it came out in 2005. I was three years old then. Around 2006-2007, I began to write illegibly before I learned the alphabet and told stories about the “words” that I had written. Around this time, my father had passed away and I began to act out a bit with my grandparents because I just did not understand what had happened. Music began to be the only consistent friend I had and never lost.

In kindergarten, I was the youngest contestant in my school’s talent show where I sang my mother’s song “Heaven and Hell” that she wrote in tribute to my Daddy. In 2009, I was chosen to be in a local Gospel singing search as the youngest contestant. I sang “Eye On The Sparrow” for the audition, recorded it for the CD compilation, and ministered during the performance with a live band and audience. Truth is, I always wanted to sing in the church choir yet the church I was going to though I was too young and would let my brother sing leads instead. I remember one day when I was nine years old, I sat in my room with these sky blue walls with no lights on, by choice, and just as clear as the night the adversary tried to convince me that I would never be the musical star that I wished to be. These lies were filled with things neither I was convinced that I could do according to my surroundings and traumatic enduring. That same day, the Lord gave me a song called “Through The Tunnel”. It has yet to be released.

From this time to the time I was 15 I did not write one song yet I wrote hundreds, maybe thousands of poems. Poetry began to be my release now that I knew the alphabet pretty well! During that time I also participated in church choir, musical theatre making my debut as Dorothy in a local rendition of “The Wiz”, played basketball, then began cheering in high school, and finally, I co-founded a STEP Team. Not to say I was running from music because I was listening to everything from Gospel to Trap, yet I didn’t write my debut R&B single “In My Feelings” until 2018. This was released also in my debut EP titled “Sunshine” of which I’ve been blessed to minister through at my home church in NC, a Black Women Empowering event in VA, my own “tiny desk” back home and multiple public and private events on my beloved CAU/AUC campus. When I look back at the nine years old girl who almost believed her dreams could never come true, I tell the devil that he’s a liar and remind myself how God continues to prove this! My biggest dream is still to be a minister of the “Good News” which is the Greek definition of the gospel so I’m currently in the process of learning how to engineer my own music while exploring the executive areas of the music industry. I’m just grateful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been anything but smooth and I believe this is why I continuously ponder on changing my career path to something that someone has done before. Being the one to intercede on behalf of broken generational hindrances within my family is difficult. My father passing away devastated more families than I realized in 2007. To find out that I was adopted by this man broke my heart and slowly filled it right back up with even more love for all of my family. Biologically speaking, my father transitioned in 2005 leaving me with many beautiful siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles to share his legacy with me. He was actually a self-taught producer and artist himself who hosted his own studio in the house.

From stories I’ve been told and analyzed, it seems as if anxiety and mistrust in others became a hindrance for him to release anything. When I found this out, I realized that I carry this trait on both sides of my heritage. Even my father who adopted me in the womb, who attended the Art Institute of Atlanta for Broadcasting and Audio Engineering… I once planned on attending college with a similar concentration until I recalled that my entire reason for wanting to be involved in music is to inspire those who may not believe they have a voice for themselves. This includes those in my near and far family while I believe that somehow we are all one. The Bible says that we are one in the body of Christ which most likely influences this belief, while music is also a spirit that brings people together no matter how many barriers tear us away. My grandpa says that anything worthwhile is not easy and I’ve added that “living your purpose must be worthwhile”.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am Eternity. e4Eternity represents the humility I hope to remain as my artist career induces through time. I have no limitations while many know me as a neo-soul artist. Around my city, I am known as an evangelical princess who stands on the shoulders of her ancestors in lineage to service wherever God sees fit for me. Around the AUC, I am known for hosting prayer meetings, ministering through song in our University Choir, and around campus at events from the Panther’s Best at Homecoming; Masquerade Ball; Presidential Inaugurations, etc. One thing I am most grateful for is to be known as a pipeline for peace to share with everyone who I encounter and I believe this sets me apart in this society that cares too much about only self. Lastly, I love to acknowledge multiple talents and gifts that can be helpful to one another so in a way, one of my specialties is public relations while teaching others how to begin networking for themselves in a unique way.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
An app that always keeps me in check is the Bible App! I’m a little hard-headed when it comes to reading when I need to so that reminder to read at least a scripture a day gives me the comfort I need while the prayer reminder gives me the go to reflect on the day with my savior. I also enjoy listening to books with Audible! I’ve been reading Angie Thomas’ “On The Come Up” until the storyline reminded me a lil too much of my life. A show on Youtube I just began to watch is “Drink Champs” where they interview different music legends while advertising their own and their friend’s drinks during long uncut conversations. Another one of these kinds of shows I enjoy is the Terrell Show also on Youtube.
