Exploring Life & Business with Shawntece Timmons of Ashlee V Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawntece Timmons.

Hi Shawntece, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
There are numerous interconnected factors that have led me to where I am today. I experienced trauma as a child. (Both physically, emotionally, and sexually.) My biological parents were both substance abusers. If you think about it, every child born in Baltimore, Maryland, between the 1980s-1989s (parents) was addicted to something. Consider growing up in a time when it was difficult for many people to survive, and you are the one who decided to make it out. I ran away from home when I was nine years old because the lifestyle I was living didn’t fit into the lifestyle I desired, and no wasn’t an option for me. I moved in with my grandparents when I was ten and was introduced to God. My grandparents were the type of people who went to church every Sunday, which I adored. Looking back, I can say that was the beginning of where my faith was being developed. Fast forward, my grandparents introduced me to God, and God introduced me to the arts. I was involved in everything at church, whether it was dancing, singing, ushering, stepping, etc. You named it, and I did it. This was when the Birth of Ashlee V took place.

Shawntece Timmons, as known as Ashlee V began her career in the entertainment sector when she was 12 years old. In 2001, the native Baltimorean was offered to land her first ad for the local supermarket “Stop Shop and Save.” Soon after, she landed another Nickelodeon commercial called “Schools Out.” Ashlee was granted another chance to be featured on Netflix’s smash series “The House of Cards” in June 2013.

Ashlee has been dancing for more than 14 years. She specializes in ballet, modern dance, and hip-hop. Ashlee began her studies at Morton Street Dance Center, Inc., James D. Gross Recreation Center, Western High School, CCBC, and The Baltimore School for the Arts TWIGS program, where she learned to play the flute.

Ashlee had the honor of choreographing and dancing alongside other outstanding DMV artists, including EVG, Tamira Cannie, J-Marie, Mahogany Fame, Alex Jay, Marcus Vonell, Chris Bivins, and others. Ashlee has appeared on 106 & Park, AFRAM, BET College Tour, and Youth Summer Block Tour, for which she was the lead choreographer. In addition, Ashlee opened for Jon B and Sevyn Streeter, and she was handpicked to be a part of Dorothy Milone, a DMV local R&B/pop female trio.

She was a member of the ensemble, as well as the group’s dance choreographer. Ashlee flew back and forth from Los Angeles to Baltimore with her group and attended the BET Awards in June 2015. Ashlee performed at the Essence Festival on July 12, 2018, which landed her numerous possibilities.

Ashlee works as a contracted dance teacher for the Baltimore City Public Schools, where she teaches elementary and middle school kids the principles and the art of dance. She worked at Westport Academy, Sarah M. Roach Elementary, and Cross Country Elementary/Middle School. Ashlee also taught after-school dance classes. She is currently the dancing director of St. Paul Institutional Baptist Church and a teacher at Matthew A Henson Elementary School. Ashlee aims to empower, motivate, and instruct young people through the art of dance and assist those in achieving and identifying their God-given gift.

Ashlee graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Legal and Ethical Studies. She currently owns Ashlee V Studio LLC where she teaches unprivileged children the art of dance and how it can be an outlet for those that experience trauma.

Not only Ashlee is a studio owner, she also manages local artists.

Ashlee’s passion is to develop future leaders, motivate students, and assist students in overcoming problems while allowing them to express themselves through the art of dance., music, etc.
