Conversations with Joslyn Jennings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joslyn Jennings.

Hi Joslyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Creativeflavor Art & Entertainment LLC was founded in 2017. It is a painting business that allows people to paint and have fun while relieving stress from our everyday routines. Creativeflavor helps people believe that we are all artists and anything is possible with a stroke of a brush.

Creativeflavor all started as a thought. I had a lady at my church saying she sees something about to blossom from within, so she started giving me magazines to look at. One day while working at FedEx Office in 2016 I called my mother and said “mom I should start my own paint n sip business” and she said “do it”. A year went by I lost my house to a fire. It was scary being a single mom figuring out how to start over again with my son, but I did it. One evening during this time I went to a painting event with some friends at church. When I went to this paint party at church, I finished my painting and people started asking for help. Ladies were coming to me for help, next thing you know I was helping the class. The night was great and it took my mind off the fire. The next week I got a call from a friend at church asking me to host a 30th painting n sip. In my head I was like, “I never done this before”, but I went along with it and brought the material to host the event. It was a success! After the 30th paint n sip, I hosted more paint n sips. I was all over Philadelphia and New Jersey. I was like oh my gosh, this is taking off. I turned my talent into an LLC. While in Philadelphia, I host events with Restaurants such as Relish and Greensoul, and now today in DC, I host two events at Wunder Garten & City State Brew. I also done Murals in Philly and the DMV. God has really blessed me and I’m forever grateful with the talent he’s blessed me with. I happy to say today I have artwork hanging at MiXtFood Hall & Soon Busboys & Poets. God Has been good and I can’t wait to see what else he has in store with the talent he has blessed me with.

Creativeflavor stands out because the talent is being illustrated through faith. it’s a business driven by passion with a goal to make every customer smile. This business impacts people’s homes, offices, galleries, etc. with beautiful artwork that can hang and look like Picasso or Vango pieces. It also helps keep art in children’s lives since many schools have removed art & music out of their programs. Studies suggest that art and self-expression promote social-emotional development and increase self-efficacy. I know that God is going to bless this business to go further than my expectations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I had long nights. I would get anxious before teaching or just sweating out a shirt trying to get things prepared for a successful event. I wouldn’t have helps all the times, and sometimes I wouldn’t  know how to sell a ticket. I just prayed and ask God for direction, he’s opened doors for me. I still face these challenges, but I know I’m fully covered by Grace now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is my faith and expectancy in God. I specialize in making art that has meaning surrounded around love. I have a series called faith without sight. This art series is to remind people that no matter what you see, God still has a better picture if you just trust him despite what you see or feel. So my brand is based on trust in God.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I had people support me in many different ways, from people buying a ticket or having someone they knew book a party. The people who stand out the most are

Parents – They did EVERYTHING TO SUPPORT me the best way they could or can. They went from watching my son to selling tickets at their jobs. I Love them so much.

Ms Denise at church – she always spoke life in me and encouraged me daily.

Shonna, she is my newest Team member who helps teach parties in the DMV. We both attend VSU together, and I never knew her talent until now. She’s a blessing.

Felicia, Danni, and Arika would help when they could. They help either setup a party took photos or purchase tickets for others to attend the party and hit me up with some encouragement.

Tasheera – she was always reminded me of my talent and always pushed me during times she never knew I wanted to give up. She’s always extended a helping hand.

Tanisha – she showed me the ropes to business and helped me get into the restaurants in Philadelphia. She helped me strategize way to get the business to go forward.

Anisha – Helped me with sketching all the pre-sketch canvases for parties and assisted with helping me set up during covid and before covid.

Ben – Helped me with delivering packages during covid-19 all over Philly & New Jersey for virtual parties.

Jamese & Justin- purchased tickets and purchased artwork 🖼
