Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Nwosu.
Hi Sherry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am married with two little daughters and I am from a little town called Monroeville, Alabama. Our sole claim to fame is Harper Lee and her book – “To Kill A Mockingbird.”
I realized at a young age that I was blessed with a great voice and a hunger to serve God. So my mom would take me from church to church where I would sing in services and learn from various choirs and praise team members.
I attended Troy University, Troy AL where I obtained my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree and also met my future husband, but while there, I served as the President of the Pentecost Campus Ministry for over three years and established the praise team that later became the opening act for the Troy University Gospel Choir.
I moved to Atlanta Georgia in 2007, where I became a member of the Voices of Faith praise team. During this period, I had the privilege to sing behind luminaries in the gospel music industry. Artists like – Jekalyn Carr, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Don Moen just to mention a few.
It has always been a dream of mine to be a Gospel Artist, but I had always deferred this dream until 2020 when the pandemic struck and disrupted everyone’s lives. I decided not to defer my dreams any longer. I turned to my husband and asked him to write me a hit song (in jest) and a few days later he presents me with a song which will later become my debut single called “Everyday”.
Everyday was released in August of 2020 and the music video got over 24,000 views on YouTube. I was later nominated for the IGAA award for the New Artist of the Year Category. In 2021 I started my Publishing Company called SHERRY NWOSU MUSIC, LLC.
In January 2022 I released my second single called “Praise Him” and “Praise Him (Reprise)” written by me, Kenechukwu Nwosu and Chris Mar’Quese Neal Smith. The music video was viewed over 54,000 times on YouTube.
I am currently about to release my third single called “I surrender” on the 2nd of September.
It takes a lot of hard work to be able to get where I am now, Juggling work, home and my music but I have a lot of support from my husband and friends who have stood by me, helping me achieve my dreams and fulfilling God’s calling upon my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road, there have been some disappointments but that comes with the business. The financial requirements I would say is one of the largest struggles with becoming an independent Gospel Artist. If you want to stand out and be taken seriously, you cannot go the cheap route. It takes a lot of capital to produce a single. You have to see it as an investment into yourself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent Gospel Artist. I am known for my debut single “Everyday” and my Sophomore single “Praise Him”
I am most proud of being nominated for the IGAA Award on my first debut single. Hearing my name announced by the presenters was definitely a high moment for me.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just want to say, never give up on your dreams. Keep at it, even when you fail, there are lessons in those failures that will help move you closer to achieving your dreams. Never give up!
