Conversations with Alexis Liddell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Liddell.

Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
First and foremost, thank you for allowing us to be featured on your platform. We appreciate this opportunity to connect with you and your readers about our business.

Tap In brand was originally founded in Atlanta, GA 2019 still in the development stages by entrepreneurs Alexis and Robert Liddell. I started to talk about what would be a great business we both could see ourselves doing together. Creating a brand has always been the number one topic. The name Tap In had been brewing in my spirit for quite some time, so one day I brought it to my husband’s attention, he had the perfect acronym, which is “Try Applying Pressure It’s Necessary.” All we could do was smile. It was like a musician hearing a record or a rhythm for the first time, knowing he or she has a hit song. From there, it has been about consulting with the right people and taking out the time to find a common ground on the message we want to send out.

Nevertheless, the quality of clothing we wanted to produce was the next major concern. The rest of the energy goes into knowing that by creating such an inspiring and motivating slogan, we would always have to find a way to Tap In. The product line of collections we have released thus far has slowly but surely caught the eyes of some amazing people. It will be the year mark November 2022 of our brand being in store in the Germantown area of Nashville. Located inside The PSV Store, a special shout out to The PSV Store for allowing us to be a part of a family.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but we knew that walking into the business of starting a brand. I don’t think our struggles are any different from anyone else that has started a business right before or during COVID-19. I questioned myself day in and day out, do we go back to working at the job we had before Covid, or do we put ours all into the two businesses that we established?

One of our biggest struggles came after we lost our home due to the December 2021 storm that erupted in Tennessee and Kentucky this past winter. We still pushed through and released our most successful collection with nothing to our names but our brand. So, struggling has been a part of our journey, but it still feels right to be doing what we are doing. On this entrepreneurial journey, we will keep seeking new growth opportunities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do many things to contribute to what we have built by running two businesses. Tap In is our clothing brand and our second business is a children’s activity/coloring book called Alex and Friends, inspired by the passing of my husband’s mother and the birth of our son a month later in 2020.

Tap In Clothing Company specializes in comfort and stylish clothing. Everything is made by hand by me. I like to make sure that we are known for being bold and consistent. I think that’s the key to anything. Consistency never loses a battle but being bold only makes you stronger. So, no matter the outcome, you still win. I’m proud that we have an identity that speaks for us as a brand and a team. A few things that set us apart from others are that we don’t follow trends, nor do we think that all avenues or lanes are for us. We love how natural things have been going. Being genuine and being reachable to people is what sets us apart. So, we stay Tapped In!

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My all-time favorite childhood memory was when my mother was a photographer. She always kept my family and me in front of a camera. We always wore all the trendy clothing and hairstyles. I love that my mom introduced a lifestyle of creativity in my early childhood years. Thank you, Elaine(Mother) and Michael(Dad), for always believing in me.
