Exploring Life & Business with Kariah Lee of The Hair Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kariah Lee.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had a passion for hair growing up starting at the age of seven. That sparked when I went to college and found myself BROKE needing my hair done so I turned to YouTube to perfect my craft with wigs/natural hairstyles. Fast forward to 2020, I still STRUGGLED to find QUALITY products that were geared more towards urban/minority communities… so I got to work. In 2021, I launched The Hair Lab which focuses on All Natural Hair Care products for the Urban community. Our products contain no harsh ingredients and are 100% alcohol-free so it’s safe for children! My daughter suffered from eczema in her scalp really bad but our growth oil has helped her TREMENDOUSLY. Our products actually work!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our journey is definitely a unique one. It took months to find the right products with the right ingredients, A lot of trial & error but once we got it right, we’ve been soaring ever since.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Hair Lab. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Hair Lab is a small black-owned business founded in Virginia but has since relocated to the heart of Atlanta. We specialize in a number of quality products and services, with our All Natural Line being at the peak of our success. We spent months researching the quality and traits of Urban communities and their hair needs, from there we stepped into the lab to create the perfect formulas. We’re most proud of our dedication to our customers and Hair Lab Family. We’ve grown so much over the past year & look forward to growing even more! We made history at our local airport being the first Black Owned Business to do a photo shoot in their hanger! Aside from the all-natural hair care aspect, we also offer wig install services as well as some braid services.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In the very beginning, I had ZERO SUPPORT! I didn’t let that discourage me because nothing worth having comes easy! There are $0 sale days, then there $1000 sale days. It’s important to embrace both, every day won’t be a great day but keep showing up and it will pay off!
