Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacques Tolbert.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hot M4Radio was started By myself Jacques “Quezmusic” Tolbert and Marcus Burnette (RIP). It was only an idea that we joked about but came to fruition. Tired of hearing the same music on local popular radio stations, we decided to make our own station. Me being a serious music fan and a producer, and Marcus a business entrepreneur it was only right we do the Hip Hop genre justice. This station is aimed at the talented unsigned artists whether spoken word, lyricists, producers, instrumentalists or DJ, who just want their art to be heard or seen. In this journey, I have made many alliances and networked with the top of the grade as well as the bottom feeders. You learn from your mistakes and you build for a stronger tomorrow and better decision-making.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not…lol. One struggle we deal with every day is consistency from up-and-coming artists and follow through with what was agreed upon. They think you can just buy a pc and music-making software, make a beat then record to it then publish to Youtube and become stars overnight. The sad part is the industry has embraced that method and some of these young cats are getting paid. Now don’t get me wrong, get it how you can but for me, it takes the artistry out of the business. You don’t have to have talent in a supposed-to-be talent-driven business. It makes it harder for the real Artist to be heard.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in giving the unknown underground Artist a voice and a platform to be heard and seen. Educating them on how to get the music to the people the correct way. When I say the correct way, I mean registering and copywriting their work. Signing up for royalty collections thru ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. Getting works IR coded and retaining publishing. Getting correct legal representation and building a team that works for the same vision. This is what sets Hot M4Radio apart from the others, education but only if they are willing to listen.
What are your plans for the future?
“Take over the Fu&&in world” – Cane P…..lol. Seriously we just gonna keep doin what we do and one day we will reach Satellite radio.
