Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelina Atkinson.
Hi Angelina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I originally got started with Butterflyy Beauty after I lost my job in 2020 due to the pandemic. I was a single parent with a newborn so when the stimulus checks were sent out, I decided to invest in myself. While being out of a job, I decided to go back to cosmetology school to pursue my cosmetology license. While going back, my passion for hair & makeup drifted back to me. Then I decided I wanted to really become an entrepreneur. I stayed up day & night researching hair vendors to sample. I started selling mink lashes & hair bundles. In my free time outside of school, I used to do hair on the side & used my own talent to start making custom wigs. I made wigs for anyone or whoever would like one but I always had a soft spot for children & adults with hair loss. I wanted to make wigs for alopecia patients & cancer patients & kids. I found myself sitting at my mom’s dining room table trying to think of a business name that inspired me to inspire others. My mom told me to always be like a butterfly, easy to see but hard to catch. I came up with Butterflyy Beauty because I sat back & watched how my life transformed from a caterpillar to a butterfly just by growth & change. & Beauty came in because I love to build confidence and self-esteem to others, it makes me feel good when I help someone else feel good about themselves just by serving & enhancing their beauty. I just began to play smart and so the same thing until my brand and my clientele reached its goes. I found better stability, peace & happiness with investing in myself and following my dreams. I don’t look at the pandemic or losing my job as a loss, it was a gain because it directed me on my correct path. I found my passion again, my purpose & now I’m in pursuit of following and pursuing my dreams to help others. You just have to let go, keep going and trust the process.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Some of the struggles were not being able to restock my inventory how I wanted to keep my business stocked because I was using stimulus checks to provide an invest but also doing hair on the side to pay our bills, get pull-ups, food, daycare, gas, clothes, everyday tasks and bills never went away. I saw progress and growth but bills never went away so that’s where my talent came in. When I would get low on hair, I would create wig caps or custom wigs that mimic the hottest trends in the hair industry, I even made homemade herbal hair gro oil. My talent really kept me going & God… I would just look at what all I had at home around me and what I could do to use what I had to expand. I knew I was working in my purpose & everything was gonna eventually work out.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create & make custom glueless wigs. & I create my own herbal hair gro oil for hair loss & breakage. I’m most proud of my growth with my wigs and oil because I have a soft spot for cancer and alopecia patients & the wigs look so natural and can Be sized to fit anyone’s head you’ll never know the client has any hair loss. I created the oil because I had hair breakage a lot & I said why not give the clients something to soothe their scalp, who knows it may even get down and thicken their hair back up despite of the diagnosis they have. The goal is to build confidence so every little girl or boy won’t have low self-esteem because of their hair loss. Beauty is within, not on the outside, but it’s always okay to feel good on the inside and look it on the outside.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can collaborate with me by contributing old hair bundles or hair that can be created into me making a wig for a client or patient. I wish there was a way to do discounts or get with an insurance company who helps with alopecia and cancer patients and kids get their wigs at stable prices or even free. If I was able to get the hair more, I wouldn’t mind donating wigs and traveling around to install them for free. But I’ll do more research to figure it out. People ask can you park with me by helping me install or create custom wigs at a more timely manner. Working on a sewing machine, I feel is much faster, I will soon hope to invest in a class.
