Norrissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From a young age I was always fascinated with cooking. Growing up I would watch my grandma cook and how it brought the family together. As time went on, I would take basic dishes and add my own twist to it. In April 2020, Niknakz Catering was launched. Starting out with small sales to coworkers, friends and family we grew with local attention. After losing my husband in November 2020, I went into a serious depression. My outlet: cooking. I focused and began putting my all into my work. Niknakz had the pleasure of catering our first wedding in June 2021, as well as served a local food influencer. Every day we grow and continue to share the love through every bite.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, the road hasn’t always been smooth. Losing my husband was one of the toughest obstacles faced. Having to fight depression as well as be a single parent is hard. I had a great support system during that time. Another bump along the way was losing my main place of business due to moving. Having to start over in a new location is hard.
We’ve been impressed with Niknakz Catering , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Whether you’re planning a small dinner or a wedding, Niknakz Catering is here to share the love. We take pride is making sure every meal is loved from the first bite to the last one. Our Honey Glazed and Lemon Pepper wings are a crowd favorite paired with our homemade macaroni and cheese. From comfort food to desserts, Niknakz Catering has you covered and we travel.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to fail. Starting over and rebuilding is necessary sometimes.
