Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaunna Spivey-Spinner.
Hi Shaunna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started modeling in 2012, it became a form of expression. I started shooting to cope with different daily stressors. I’ve been in Inked Girls magazine, Black Ink Mag, I’ve been on Vh1 with Beauty Bar and Leave it to Stevie.
I lost my mother to cancer in 2014 and that changed the dynamic for me. I wanted kids and a life my mother could be proud of. I self-published my first book shortly after my mother died titled “Dear Self”. I’ve written 5 books in total about self-help, love, broken family, daddy issues and an array of ways to help cope with loss.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. I decided to birth my child when my mother died, it was the only way to keep her legacy flowing. Being pregnant was hard as a lesbian, black and masculine woman. I was belittled, disrespected and taunted on social media for being pregnant.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an author, model, entrepreneur, life coach and personal trainer. I’m known for my modeling pictures going viral and my self-help books.
I’m most proud of creating the life of my son, Oćean.
When it comes to others, I don’t really look to them for the difference in myself. I want to uplift, motivate and inspire the masses to be themselves no matter the judgment.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being personable, humble and motivated are truly the top 3 characteristics that fuel my success
