Conversations with Yana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yana.

Hi Yana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a love for nails since I was a kid but I never thought I was capable of doing it. I started practicing a little during quarantine 2020 but I gave up. I took a nail class in May 2021 and I just stuck with it after that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been farrrrr from smooth. So when I first started out I was doing $10 & $15 sets any length, any style just to practice and get better. Of course, I was extremely broke during that time! But Every part of the nails is extremely hard. Applying tips straight, application, shaping andddd then coming up with freestyle designs on the spot. I felt like the pressure was even heavier on me because I dropped out of college to be a nail tech full time so I moved back to Atlanta and had to build my clientele from 0. It took me a good 2 months to actually get bookings and 3 or 4 months to get booked consistently. Keep in mind, nail products are EXTREMELY expensive so during that time basically all of my profit went right back to my inventory. I literally spent a good 4 months not making anyyyy real money. A lot of people doubted me so much when I dropped out of school but God had other plans for me so I had no choice but to keep going. It was all a part of the process so I’m grateful for it all and I learned so much.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in exotic nails with a lot of charms, gems & designs. I feel like I’m most known for the amount of charms I use on each set and how I put them together to look nice. I’m most proud of the fact that I kept myself motivated and didn’t quit. I think the thing that sets me apart from others is I genuinely love what I do, I studied it since I was a child and of course, I like that I can make money doing it, but it was never about the money from the beginning. I’ve always just been so infatuated with nails.

What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is being able to take care of myself, my family and my future children.
