Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence Hamilton.
Hi Terrence, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Coming out of high school I really did not see myself in traditional college so I picked up the skill of cutting hair. I have always watched barber videos and have always been fascinated with how being a barber works. Shortly after I graduated high school, I started to attend a barber school in the metro Atlanta area called Shearz Institute where I started to learn how to cut hair and where I progressively got better very quickly.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Staring your own business is never going to be a smooth road. It started difficultly. From people talking about my work to not being happy with my own work. I continued to practice and not let people’s opinions get the best of me. Critics can be your worst enemies.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of my dedication to being a barber. I’m proud of how I set my mind on the task and continued to elevate with my craft through the few months to a year that I have been in the game. My precision and detail work separate me far apart from the average barber. If the haircut is not picture perfect then it isn’t finished. I specialize in making sure my client leaves with the best haircut experience they have ever had, taking my time to point out any flaws and discrepancies in the cut.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Everybody is not going to support you or like your work. Everybody has their own opinions, it’s up to you if you are going to let them affect you in your career. There is always more to learn.
