Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Event planning has always been a passion of mine. It started when I was a little girl, and my mother would plan various events for the church which started my journey. As I got older, the desire to plan events became stronger. My first event, I was the wedding coordinator for my best friend. It was an exuberant experience. After that experience, I started planning events and decorating for family and friends as a hobby.
After years of experience, I was stagnant with my current job, so I decided to move to North Carolina and started a business with Mrs. Irizarry. We were in business for four years before I decided to move back to Woodbridge, VA. Once I was settled in the new area, I knew it was time to renew what I loved. I started my research of the area, attended network events and went out in the community to introduce myself and the business.
Currently, I am a viable event and decorating company in the area. My mission is to ensure the customer’s vision/dream becomes a reality.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles? Of course, without a struggle you can’t appreciate what you have. There are times when you talk with a customer and you think they are on board with booking with you and at the last minute, you get that discouraging email. The customer tells you they decided to go another route. I had my family and friends to encourage me and tell me to stay the course. I did just that and now I have become a successful business owner, and event planner decor extraordinaire in the area.
As you know, we’re big fans of La Fete Xpressions. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is La Fete Xpressions LLC. We are an event planning and decorating company. We specialize in decorating for all events such as weddings, baby/bridal showers, birthday parties, wedding anniversary and corporate parties. My customer service sets me apart from other companies. If there are any problems, I ensure they are happy and satisfied I am most proud of my work and the end product of all my designs. I am also a trailblazer. In this business, you have to update your product in order to stay with the new trends. As well as decorating, I setup yard signs for all events. Yard signs are an added touch to any event. When you pull up to the house or event space and you see the sign, you feel special, and it sets off what the space is going to look like.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I am a risk-taker. It is very dangerous because you can lose everything but if you do not take a chance how will you ever know. You have to be brave to take chances, but I am a strong believer in having a plan b. I know many people having taking risks and is very successful. Take that chance and even if you fail you will have learned what changes to make in the future to be successful.
