Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenise McBride.
Jenise, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started 4 years ago doing natural hair when I first did my “Big chop”. I noticed that over the years my hair became very thin and no matter what I did it had no body and after the birth of my daughter, I decided to just chop all my perm hair off and start over. I then decided I wanted to not be a bland natural but wanted to reinvent my natural hair without causing damage and also increase growth and I came across protective styling and fell in love with the potential crochet braids could have if done the right way. I started to do knotless Crochet Braids and perfected my technique and The birth of AngelicallyKute Natural Hair Care was born!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely was some struggles with getting the business out there and then I discovered Instagram and my business took off and grew. Also hiring other people to help in this growing business such as braiding assistance, other stylists etc. was very tasking and I’m still looking for positive, motivated, energetic people to join the AngelicallyKute Brand. Also, it was and still is a struggle to balance business and being a wife and mother of 3, I handle every facet of this business as to why I’m looking for qualified people to hire so that I can spend more time with my family but for now I’m completely invested into what I do.
Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
I admire a lot of other talented women entrepreneurs such as Dion from CrownedByD who is The Crochet Guru she is such an inspiration and very admirable. She is very encouraging and humbly shares her wisdom with others. She made me realize my potential and also a very captivating person to talk too. But of course, my family and friends have played a pivotal role in my career. My husband along with my best friend (Michelle) has been my biggest supporters. They’ve always encouraged and supported my dreams and believed in my vision.
What type of clients or projects do you look forward to most?
Well, I hope to work possibly in the entertainment industry and being a personal hairstylist for an Entertainer/TV Personality but really I do enjoy All of my clients from the everyday Mom and Homemaker to the Business Elite. Everyone has their own wisdom to share. I realized I learned so much from my clients whether it be business or spirituality and right down to relationships, I love it all. I am a Big learner of Life and love to share and receive wisdom from others.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
Hmmmm, I probably would’ve done my marketing differently and put myself and business out there more as well as build better relationships with reputable people but I am so shy about that and approaching people of certain stature. I don’t know why I just think it’s bothersome to them! It’s crazy cause I was in the fashion industry for years as a fashion designer in which I still make custom garments for people and I’ve come in contact with so many business Elite people and entertainers that are both in the fashion and hair industry but never built a long-lasting relationship or even a memorable one for that matter. So I would say I definitely need to work on that. They remembered my work of course cause it speaks for itself but I certainly did not make my face known as the person behind the work lol
