Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadija Hamilton.
Hi Khadija, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I found an interest in the fashion industry by finding an interest in exactly what I was wearing every day. I asked my mom at 7 to dress myself and never stopped. Then it gravitated to interest in what society was doing by drowning myself in magazines like Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, etc. I knew that I had to go to school for Fashion and live out my dreams in NYC.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been an easy road and I have a long journey ahead. I just have to remind myself that I’m still young and comparison is the thief of joy. Finding a way to enjoy every step.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a freelance fashion stylist. I’m known for doing that as well as being a tarot reader. I am most proud of not putting myself in a box. I have other interests and talents outside of fashion and I’m nowhere near afraid to explore that.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for networking is to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. I think when you push yourself to do more or to be in a room, you wouldn’t usually be in, that’s where growth starts.
