Meet Kathy Davis of Abbey of the Holy Goats in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Davis.

Kathy started her brewing experience as most do in the brewing industry – as a home-brewer. After winning several awards for her beer, she decided to peruse a career in the industry and attended Georgia State University’s business school with a focus on entrepreneurship and operations management. She won second place in the prestigious Georgia State Business Plan competition. Joining several professional brewing organizations and technical societies, she furthered her industry knowledge through intensive workshops and conferences.

Kathy is a classically trained chef through Johnson & Wales University. Combining her passion for food and beer, the concept of the brewery was born – gastronomically designed beers as the perfect food complement.

In 2015, the brewery began buildout in industrial space in Roswell, GA. One year later, production began and the brewery opened to the public on April 1, 2016. Soon to celebrate our second anniversary, the brewery continues expand its line of offerings and will soon launch into bottles.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting any business is never smooth. Problems that you can never forecast for rear their ugly heads – equipment failures that lead to spoiled product, innovative plastic kegs that fail in the market causing for an insurance claim and new capital expenditure for metal kegs that was not budgeted for; to learning how to attract the best talent and retain them.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Abbey of the Holy Goats, Brewery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a craft brewery that specializes in Belgian-style with American ingenuity beers that have a gastronomy focus. We make beer to go with food. In an industry that is dominated by men, I’m proud of the fact that we are the first woman-owned brewery in Georgia.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are adding more capacity as we start bottling. Current production is just under a thousand barrels per year. With bottling, we anticipate being closer to 2000.
