Conversations with Geborah Xolah Gebor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geborah Xolah Gebor.

Hi Geborah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born from the Black Hebrew Israelites group who settled in Dimona Israel. My Hebrew name Geborah means “Strong and Mighty”. I traveled to the U.S with my mother and 2 older siblings when I was 3. My world opened up creatively at 4 years old, it was at that age I discovered what I was capable of. I entered an art contest and won a little red cassette tape radio (at the homeless shelter in Manhattan, N.Y). That feeling of being a winner gave me hope during a difficult time. I continued to explore being an artist by expressing my ideas & reflections of experiences through poetry, writing in journals, drawing & with fashion.

Growing up in Brooklyn, NY I was exposed to various types of style but I thought my mother was amazing to free-hand cut dresses and create clothes with no pattern. Becoming more curious about fashion and style around 6yrs old helped me to see and discover how to design for myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth- not at all, life has an interesting way of showing me how to appreciate good moments and people that show up. Challenges I faced along the way involved feeling unloved at home (in my youth) which made understanding healthy relationships difficult to say the least. My foundation & upbringing was a place of survival and lots of pressure. However, I was close to my great-grandmother Charlie-Mae Arvinger she brought light into my world. She awakened my spiritual life, I admired her conservative style, she’d always tell me stories and give great advice. She’d also make the best morning tea and home-made biscuits before church.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work in design/art and publishing. I specialize in style and art for fashion + painting on canvas, content creating for 1InclusionMagazine.com and poetry writing. I’m known for being creative, as a professional I’ve worked as a Creative Director, Dancer, Modeling Instructor + Educator, Business Developer, Stylist and Photographer. My art currently ranges from $200 -$800 ea. I will be participating in an art show soon.

I am most proud of sharing my love for creativity by developing Inclusion Magazine (2010), it gave my diverse talents an unshakeable home.

What sets me apart from others is my spiritual faith, positive attitude, kindness, my willingness to choose love every day & continue to use my imagination-daring to be myself innovatively.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’m mostly an introvert and never had a mentor. What has worked best for me is being myself, trusting the timing of my life and who belonged in it.
