Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Decker.
Hi Cynthia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been fitting bras since I was 18. I am currently 51 and know I have seen more boobs than Hugh Hefner! I lived in London England and worked for Rigby & Peller who made the queens bras. I learned to alter bras there. I then came back and worked at Intimacy of Phipps. I met Molly Hopkins and we decided to open our own store in 2006 so that we could help everyone. We wanted to help the hard to fit and mastectomy patients. We wanted to offer affordable bras with a healthy fit. We were picked for a reality show called Double Divas in 2010. It was a show on bra fitting and the stories of people with specific needs. We had two seasons and it went international on Lifetime network. I was coined the Thomas Edison of bra design and would come up with new inventions every episode. I have made the largest bra in the world and I have a toilet paper wedding dress in the Ripley’s museum of art in Texas. Molly and I now sit on 90 Day Pillow talk on TLC where we continue to spread the word about healthy bra fit! Molly and I currently have a new Podcast on all platforms including our Livirae LIngerie YouTube.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our journey has been nothing but easy! We were two women starting a business with no money. We had plenty of experience but banks did not care about that. Needless to say we did not get a loan and still to this day no loan from a bank. We opened the business on my personal credit and a line of credit from my mom and 10K from a friend. I also went through a divorce and was thrown out of my house, by my abusive husband. I had two small kids and Molly had one. We worked every day and flyered Walmart parking lots. We were also sued by our former boss as she was unhappy we left as we were her top sales girls. Not only did she do that, but she told all vendors to not sell to us. You can only imagine how hard it was to open a business and cant get product. The opening day we had two bras per size to sell. We had to spend lots of money importing brands such as Berdita from London to get bras for our business. We have been stolen from, cheated and used. We know that God is in control and we are meant to help women! We continue to fight to be in business as a small business during a pandemic and now a recession. We will never give up helping all women in a judgment-free zone.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in bra fit for bust health. No bust to big or small…we fit em all! is our slogan. We love women of all shapes and sizes. We carry the smallest and largest bra made. 30A-52O and we alter bras to fit. We believe every women should have access to a proper fitted bra. Over 85% of women wear the wrong size and wearing wire on breast tissue can cause calcification of cells or lumps. This can in turn lead to breast cancer. It would be like wearing the wrong size shoe. Education is key and it’s an injustice to women everywhere that do not have the correct sizes available to buy. We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite memory is being with my Nana and playing in her attic. She was always there for me. I was a creative kid and enjoyed drawing and sewing. My grandmommy taught me how to sew. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents.
