Hidden Gems: Meet Danielle Dove of Rose Dove Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Dove.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Rose Dove Designs began as a side hustle hobby to be honest. This opportunity just dropped in my lap. Before becoming full-time and positioning myself as a branding and web design agency I was stuck in the hamster wheel of working a 9-5. Since I can remember, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur some way somehow! I always felt like I didn’t belong in the 9-5 corporate space because I’m so creative, bright, and passionate. So while working these 9-5, I was trying to find my way in the creative space. I have launched multiple businesses, I was a lash tech, a mobile bartender, and I was a cosmetics business owner. I realized none of those fit me and I felt like I needed something more. I wanted to feel fulfilled! It wasn’t until I branded my cosmetics business where I started to notice I really loved being able to have full creative direction, building a brand from the ground up with great brand strategy and imagery.

Soon I started getting questions on who designed my cosmetics brand and I told them it was me! From there people started to ask me if I could help them with their visuals for their brands, and I realized hmm maybe I should take this serious. So I started small! I am a self-taught graphic designer and I started out on Canva. I would do a la carte services for my friends and family. I would do logos, business card designs, eflyer designs, you name it!

I realized helping black women who are in business tell their story and connect with their community is an amazing feeling. The best part to me is looking at how the process unfolds! It’s messy in the beginning, but once we collaborate and build a brand that is custom to them the transformation is amazing!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I just hit my one-year anniversary in my business and has the road been easy? OF COURSE NOT! I would be lying if I said running a business was easy! Lol.

Here are my biggest takeaways:

Early on in my journey, I realized I needed professional help, someone that can guide me through this process and also be of some support. So April 2022, I hired a coach that could help me set up my business correctly. She has helped me set the right foundation by creating systems, processes, and automation so my clients have a great user experience. She’s also taught me the importance of mindset and showing up as your true authentic self. She honestly helped me in my confidence of understanding I do bring value to the table! There is also a community of women in my coaching program that has been of great support. We lean on each other to be honest.

Understanding that it takes time to build a reputable business was one of my biggest struggles. Today social media is king, and a lot of people only post their wins, which makes others feel like they are not doing enough, not rich enough, etc. So it was a lot of pressure in the beginning, but now I am enjoying and trusting this process. Pressure makes DIAMONDS, and in due time the world will know who Rose Dove Designs is.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up for me was interesting. I came from humble beginnings and I had to grow up quickly. My early years I experienced a lot of hardships, but overall I think I was a pretty happy kid. In my younger years, I moved around a lot. So I never really had time to lay my roots, but it always forced me to adapt to my environment. Even though I was always the littlest person, I had a big personality. Personality wise I think it’s safe to say I was a bold and unapologetic. I would always ask questions (and that could be a little shaky at times, but I wanted to know why! lol). I think I was just really aware and wanted to know my surroundings. I loved anything creative or anything I could do with my hands. I was never afraid to try different things and I guess I can say at times I was a bit adventurous. Overall I can say childhood helped mold me into this well-rounded, compassionate, empathetic, optimistic person for sure.

A lot of my interest were trying to figure out how things worked. I always loved learning about new things and researching why certain things happen or how to build something. I just was overall curious always wanted to learn more. With me being an entrepreneur now, it just seems so fulfilling because you never stop learning! It’s ongoing and it’s always ways to become better.
