Hi Samari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi Lovebugs, I started Essential Herb and Wellness in 2015, right before it was my time to graduate from WSSU with a Chemistry degree. Originally we started as a hobby making beard balms and soothing creams for menstrual cramps. As time went on and reviews began to pour in I knew that I wanted to use my knowledge and gifting to help and heal others. Now Essential Herb and Wellness is designed to provide a natural alternative to mass-produce toxic products. As well as make the transition to natural products easier.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been smooth sailing. There’s been times I’ve completely messed up on formulations and full inventory restocks and had to start over from scratch which is very expensive. I’ve had to close down a retail store, revamp flooded workspaces and so much more. I’ve definitely had a lot of bumps in the road but my purpose and my faith in God keep me going.
We’ve been impressed with Essential Herb and Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Essential Herb and Wellness is an all-natural chemist-curated personal care brand. Our mission and purpose is to provide a natural alternative to toxic products. We also want to make the transition to natural products easier. I found that a lot of people aren’t knowledgeable of ingredients and their uses. So it makes them skeptical of stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. As a business owner and formulator, it brings me so much joy we customers (my lovebugs) return and show how we’ve been able to fix a problem they’re experiencing.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being empathetic and open with my customers. Being able to understand the pain and frustration they may be feeling. And be able to open up about my own struggles to better assist them.
