Rising Stars: Meet Teri Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Green.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My hair journey started out as a little girl at the age of five, cutting and styling my Barbie dolls. Each one that I messed up, my parents would replace. Lol, As I started middle school, I’d assist my Great Aunt in her salon in any way that I could. I’d personally watch my Uncle Bobby make his very own hair care products and ship them globally. I accompanied my uncle to my first-ever Bronner Bros Hair Show in Atlanta, GA.

I heard stories of what a great cosmetologist my grandmother was. My greatest regret is that I never got to meet her. As you now see, hair is in my DNA. It was all around me. I couldn’t escape it.

Deciding to leave college and pursue this burning passion was a difficult decision to make. I couldn’t have made it without the support of my loving parents. My Dad told me that he’d get in this train with me, but as soon as it looked like I was about to wreck, he was jumping off. Lol, Glad to say he never jumped off.

The advice, wisdom, love and teachings of my parents and a few of my senior stylists has gotten me to where I am today. The love and support of my husband has been incredible. Staying humble, grounded and passionate will place me in the places I need to be.

I am now embarking on a new adventure as a Master Stylist with my very own personal hair care line that will enhance the health of hair. I’m very excited as to what this new chapter will bring.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thanks be to God, it has not been a struggle. With the support of my parents, husband and God, it’s been a pretty smooth ride.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Master Hair Stylist specializing in haircuts. I am known for Pixie cuts. I am most proud of the way that I’ve been able to navigate my artistry in the direction that I wanted without it affecting my career. Being a creative, you are passionate about what you do and how you do it. What doesn’t move you, you shouldn’t be “forced” to do. It’s a blessing to be able to concentrate on that one thing you love to do and be successful at it.

I think what sets me apart is the fact that I customize each haircut for that particular client. When they leave the chair, they feel good about wearing their own hair and realize their hair is worth showing instead of hiding. Each client is a different story and situation. I’m constantly being fed by educating myself with the proper knowledge to educate my clients.

I am a trendsetter but just as important, I’m also big on healthy hair. So no, I’ll never compromise the health of my client’s hair for a trendy style. Hair care is first and foremost. The ultimate goal is to have trendy, healthy hair.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to those starting out is to get as much knowledge as you possibly can and soak it in like a sponge. I did, and it only helped me to become the stylist I am today. No one knows it all and if you’re privy to knowing a senior hairstylist, get with them. The experience alone is one you’ll cherish forever as you build your career.
