Conversations with Karon Joseph Riley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karon Joseph Riley.

Hi Karon Joseph, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to Atlanta in 02’ to play for the Atlanta Falcons, finished my career, and started my acting career around 2008. I kept pedaling until I eventually started producing and directing. I’ve now produced 5-6 projects with my partners and team Dedicated Prophecy Films. I also produced 2 projects in association with another partner and brother Marcus Smoot of Smootfilms. Now I’m still acting and working on finding more production opportunities through investors and other means.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been smooth because it’s the road that leads to my purpose. Now has it been easy? No. I’ve had to deal with failed partnerships, stalled projects, and just constant climbing. But it is all serving me, so I take it all with a grain of salt. And Keeppedaling.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m first and foremost a man of Afrikan descent, living in a world that doesn’t necessarily come off as inviting all the time. I’m known as an athlete, actor, producer, father, and a husband. I’m most proud of being able to say I work really hard at all of these adjectives that describe me. The thing I believe that sets me apart is my unwavering belief in myself and my God. Which means myself and my vision. I don’t much concern myself with what others are doing or do.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that our city feels like our city at times. And other times it can feel like a foreign country. But I also believe that is what makes Atlanta so popular is the fact that is can be a lot of different things to people of all walks of life.
