Today we’d like to introduce you to Tariq McAllister.
Hi Tariq, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career in entertainment in college when I joined an organization that curates most of the major events on campus like Homecoming. From there, I got tired of having to ask permission for every idea I wanted to put in motion so I decided to start my own entertainment company. As my company grew, I gained more opportunities that eventually helped me land an internship that led me into a full-time job.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve realized that chasing your dreams will never be a smooth road. You will always face obstacles whether you don’t have the finances to execute your ideas or whether you don’t feel like you’re supported by others but at the end of the day, I learned that you just can’t quit. As long as you believe in your idea or goals more than anyone else, there is no limit to what you can manifest.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a marketing coordinator at Motown Records. I am responsible for facilitating meetings with label executives to curate major artist campaigns. I also work directly with signed artists to help ideate and promote their releases. I am most proud of believing I would be in this position and actually manifesting it.
What separates me from others is that I am addicted to learning & growing in my field. I am always looking for that next step.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Never settle for less than what you’re worth. Nothing is too far out of reach with dedication & persistence.
