Exploring Life & Business with Godson Michel of Blue Surge Marketing Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Godson Michel.

Hi Godson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is unconventional, filled with high highs and lower lows, but to start, I was your prototypical immigrant kid whose family moved from Haiti to the U.S. and struggled to make it. I’m talking nine people in a one-bedroom apartment. Taking public transportation to get around. We didn’t even know how to sign up for food stamps. Fortunately, I was always a bright kid in school, so I got accepted into a Physician Assistant program when I was ready for college. While there, I realized I needed money to pay for textbooks and figured I could start reselling sneakers on the side. Long story short that little side hustle ballooned into a massive operation that allowed me to eventually open up a storefront, travel the world, and become an active member of my community. The success of my first company caused local business owners to reach out to me to help them with their marketing. After doing that for a few years, I was able to open my advertising firm, Blue Surge Marketing Agency. Years later, while running my firm, the CEO of Tradeblock, the world’s largest sneaker trading platform, reached out for me to head their new marketing department. I became their Director of Growth & Marketing while they raised $8.9M in funding. Today, I’m happily running my agency, fueling growth at Tradeblock, prepping for the upcoming book launch, and rewatching episodes of Naruto when I have those rare free moments.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Shakespeare once said, “The course of true love never did run smooth.” I actually think he was talking about business. When you’re empire building from scratch with no connections in this country, no mentors, and limited funding, struggles are inevitable. I remember one of my biggest challenges was figuring out how to delegate. I had run KickBackz, my first business alone, so learning to build a team and hand over tasks was a hurdle. Understanding the importance of working on my business instead of in the business took me a while. I’m glad I figured it out; it made me a better leader.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Blue Surge is a digital marketing, website design, and consulting agency. We’re focused on pay-per-click advertising, lead generation, search engine optimization, and, ultimately, helping the businesses and nonprofit organizations we work with generate meaningful growth over time.

We’re unique because there are only a handful of Black-owned marketing firms based in the States. As far as agencies go, we provide a level of personalization that makes our clients feel empowered about partnering with us.

My proudest moment was when we were secured our contract with Blacks In Government®, a national nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. Their organization advocates for the employment of Black Americans in this country, which is significant considering the level of disenfranchisement minorities have historically faced in this nation.

Overall, Blue Surge Marketing Agency is a competitively priced firm with a proven track record that makes us a good fit for emerging brands looking to scale.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
