Today we’d like to introduce you to S.O. Davis.
Hi S.O. Davis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in this world as a shy, introspective little person who loved exploring her imagination. Very early on, I was fascinated by stories and storytelling. I’m happy to share that this fascination hasn’t ended for me. Now, I write them.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like many creatives, I struggle with the temperamental nature of inspiration. Sometimes it comes easy. Other times, the inspiration and even the desire to create can be very low. So I have my creative highs and lows. Although I understand it, there are times when the lack of output is frustrating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I’m proud of achieving a dream I’ve had since I was a little girl: to hold my own book in my hands. I’m happy to share that I have three books of my own that I’ve held, and hope for many more to come.
What sets me apart from others: me. I believe that all artists bring themselves to their work and that in itself makes us all unique. There’s only one me, and I try to remember that this sets me apart from everyone else.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I want anyone reading my work to see themselves in what they read, especially women of color. My work needs to be a mirror for my readers to see themselves. This matters to me because growing up as a young reader, the worlds I was reading about and imagining were rarely representative of me, my background, the people I knew, my experience. You can read for story’s sake, but how powerful would it be if you felt seen inside the story?
