Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Cantrell.
Hi Angela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Arts have played a substantial role in my development throughout the years. Growing up, music and art was a staple in our home. My mother was a 1st soprano singer, similar to Leontyne Price, there was a piano in the living room, and each sibling played an instrument. Piano lessons was my short-lived hobby, as opposed to playing the Clarinet in the band at school and several years of dance lessons at the local community arts center. It is important to acknowledge; my older sister, whom painted an homage to “Soul Train” mural on the wall leading to the basement, also where my brother’s band would practice, and the record player was mounted in the wall. It was during my time at the art center where the details, colors, and stories behind the art pieces sparked an interest, and I began to truly appreciate visual Art. As a teenager, this appreciation was translated through various roles/responsibilities within the production of multiple theatrical hair and fashion shows. From theme conception to Mistress of Ceremony, I have done it all. This experience led to a variety of other creative opportunities, including working on the City of Pontiac’s planning committee for the annual Art’s Beats and Eats Festival, which included the entertainment selection as well. By my mid to late 20s, friends and family began to inquire about making changes to their home, from furniture selections to complete room make-overs, which is where one of my passions remain, Styling Home Interiors.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Years after relocating to Georgia, Eye 4 Design Social Consultants, LLC, was started to create beautiful spaces for others to enjoy with event services. Lacking the required time and resources to keep it viable over the years ultimately led to a period of re-evaluation. As we all know, 2020 afforded plenty of time for soul-searching. While the idea of re-aligning my services was already the plan, several of the necessary steps to re-brand the business were completed over the last two years, with many more to go.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Eye 4 Design offers Interior Styling Services, such as on-site & virtual Home Staging, Color Consultations, De-clutter & Organization, virtual DIY Consultations, and virtual Home Shopping. The primary goal is to help people get a fresh start without the financial burden of starting over. That could mean re-arranging furniture and adding a few new pieces of décor to a space or selling a home due to necessity. There is pride in the ability to re-create a space according to what is already available, selecting additional pieces, and client expectations. While a blank slate has advantages, there’s a special feeling connected to reinventing something considered past tense into something fresh and creative. Most importantly, I understand change often comes with a cost, but it doesn’t require a massive budget unless you have one to spare. As a volunteer tutor and former public school educator, a key component of the student learning process relies on promoting artistic expression. It’s evident exploring creative options encourages self-expression and helps maintain students’ attention. Creating an interactive children’s phonics game is my latest attempt to stimulate student learning, which has me excited. Until now, Mood boarding has provided the primary source of creative therapy, but there are more games on the horizon.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to follow your instinct and passion, while staying mindful, as a creative this may or may not change, throughout the process. Many will try to guide you toward where they think you should go or what you should do, while some direction will come well intended, if it does not feed your creative soul, it’s not for you. Research and learn as much as possible about your craft and/or interest. Take a few free Business Management courses (verify the source), you can’t operate a business while relying on someone else to know your business. Growing is an internal and external collective process, in other words, you must be able to work with other people because you really can’t do it alone, no matter how much you think you can. Finally, I wish I knew that anything was possible if you remove fear from the equation.
