Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Montana.
Hi Nikki, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all began when I was 13 working as an administrative assistant for a concert production company. Growing up I really only had myself and through much pain at home, the only thing that could ever take me out of it and into my own safe space was music. So I’ve always felt this strong desire to create a lifestyle that inspires people deeply through music, art and my own experiences.
As I got older, I carried my passions to Full Sail University to study my Bachelor’s in Music Business. Then in 2019, I bought some cheap studio equipment and made my closet into a studio. I created one of my first beats and dove right into finding my style as an artist/ DJ.
Although, most of my years until I tuned 27, I’ve had to learn to heal & stop letting my fears transpire into blockages that wouldn’t ever allow me to become the things I desire, like being an artist. I had to get out of my own way.
Now, with it almost being 2023 I feel I’m finally building the real foundations to my career and my life…but I know I still have a long way to go. I’m in love with the process of creating my art and learning how to improve my skill and technique. I’m in love with the hustle of getting booked to DJ and network with people and I love the feeling I get from just sharing dope music with others… creating the energy! I look forward to my future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s never a smooth road or an easy life, but I’ve learned that tough situations don’t last..tough people do. You create the life you want to live, especially with the belief you have about yourself… who are you, really? Every obstacle that has happened to me happened for me. There is a message in everything, just as I feel there is beauty in everything. I tend to look at things in life now as everything having some type of algorithm and blueprint. The obstacles I had faced and will face are preparing me for the prayers I have prayed. They help me learn what I want and do not want, they test my character to build it up and help me to continue to evolve and get closer to being the woman I want to become… I choose to face my fears and to never let it take over me… I am resilient.
I constantly remind myself to live in the present moment too, that’s where the magic is.. and where the memories are created. I’ve had many ups and downs and times where I am questioning my passions, my progress and what I’m doing with my life. I’ve learned that you will know what’s for you and what makes you come alive. When you go in the direction of your dreams, following your intuition regardless of the obstacles, knowing its’ yours for the taking… you have to make the decision to do everything in your being to make it happen.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I go by Nikki Montana, I am an artist, producer & DJ. People in college started calling me Montana because they thought it was crazy that I’m actually from Montana. I’m sure in the future I’ll hit everyone with a Puffy Daddy and change my name a few times, but it will always be a part of my identity. I have been curating a dreamy tech house/ ATL trap sound with my music. I am so obsessed with a heavy 808, weird sound that just makes you instantly vibe with the track and lifestyle of the artist. I’ve always been so inspired by Young Thug & YSL, A$AP Rocky, Zhu.. so many artists and creatives I can’t even begin to write it all out.
Everything I love just ties in together because I love writing, using my voice, creating music video concepts, and making/ performing the music. I can create so much and it’s all this feeling of every positive emotion I’ve ever felt.. it’s so energizing and then when it’s received well I’m really feeling like… I’m creating this perfect energy. It’s the same thing when I can get that same feeling from others creating the energy… its all magic!
I think that’s what really sets me and just someone apart in general.. is genuinely being a rare individual. Being in alignment with the feeling and energy of something… and it’s all so unique to each person and uniquely made by the individual. Like, Gunna is Gunna.. there is no one like him.. his sound & style is outta this world. He’s created his own wave that people connect to and get.. those things curate emotion, feeling, energy, action, inspiration.. all that. That’s something that I’m proud of.. being uniquely my own person and being a little bit of something for everyone to relate or connect to.
What are your plans for the future?
I have these huge vision boards at my place with my face cut out onto pictures of how my life will be. The thing is, it’s not a matter of IF it will all happen…it’s just a matter of when.
Right now, I am persistent in building my foundations & my team and to continue creating my unique sound. So all I know right now is that my future & career is filled with high levels of success, big business deals, and a healthy and happy family. The in-between is all hustle!
