Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharice Brown.
Hi Sharice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Of course!
A suburban Jersey girl at heart, I stumbled into the city of a new love, Atlanta. I have always wondered what it would be like to live in Georgia after growing up, up north. So, four years after graduating college and wanted a “new start, who dis” type of life, I took a leap out on faith and moved to Atlanta.
I didn’t have a career, let alone a job. I started off doing extra work for major networks, and met some really cool people along the way. I then reverted back to the mortgage field. It was familiar, and something I had been doing back in New Jersey. I wasn’t satisfied. I knew that I was disposable and could be laid off at any given moment. Which, I was. The mortgage industry isn’t secure at all. But then again, what company is?
One thing about Atlanta is you can gain inspiration anywhere. No matter what room you enter, there is someone who either owns their own business or knows someone who does. Entrepreneurism is everywhere. And I can say Atlanta pulled out the creative in me. My first business idea was an online clothing boutique. That business didn’t own my heart. With a new way of thinking and new ideas, I created the brand Luxxscape.
Luxxscape is my online bath and body product line. My baby! All of my creative juices goes into this business. I have huge plans and goals in which I’m willing to go above and beyond to reach. One thing is for certain, it’s not all peaches and roses. Owning a business definitely has it’s challenges, but I am up for the ride.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have learned so many things this year alone. One important lesson is, do not rush the process. We read so many stories on how a business/company blew up from 1 sale and we can think, ” Dang, I must be doing something wrong.” When sells are slow, marketing emails aren’t being read, and/or promotions and discounts aren’t meeting projected sales goals, it could feel like the end of the world. When I first started my business, I wasn’t really aware of the challenges that come with running a business. I certainly consider it to be unyielding at times and not for the weak. However, that is where faith and consistency should be at the forefront, nursing my worries, right?!
Unlike my mindset and outlook about my clothing boutique, Luxxscape has been very uplifting to my soul. I’ve grown from the challenges from my previous business endeavors, and can honestly say, even though I have slow days, the days when people compliment my brand and say they love my products is when all the woes of challenge subside.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to think of myself as someone who is clever. I feel like whatever I touch or imagine, I’m adding an extra flair of creativity to it. Even with making coffee in the morning, I’m definitely utilizing my milk frother and adding a stenciled cinnamon smile. to the top of my matcha latte. lol for that extra oomph.
Same thing applies to my body products for Luxxscape. From the ingredients I use to the corky names I’ve chosen for my body scrubs and bath bombs, I’m pouring from my imagination every chance I get.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Young Sharice would definitely be proud of adult Sharice. I was kind of timid and scared to let my young self shine. I didn’t feel accepted or noticed as a child. I also was not aware of the light I possessed. I was the child who only shared her vivid imagination to a select few. As I ventured off to college, I most certainly started to come into myself. Slowly and surely.
When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was always a teacher. And in a way, I am just that. Although I do not own a teaching certificate, I am educating my customers, family, and friends on the importance of self-care, self-worth, living freely, and the benefits of using my bath and body products.
I can assure you that, I am still growing up in many different ways. I am most certainly building up, leveling up, and creating up. The growth never stops.
