Rising Stars: Meet Ethan Calhoun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Calhoun.

Ethan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do in life until I went into my senior year of college. I had a conversation the previous summer that would change my life. Since that day, the idea of building a brand was set in my head. My entire senior year of college was dedicated to getting my ideas off the ground & beginning the process of establishing a brand.

My inspiration comes from simply wanting to be a better person for myself and others. As I continue to grow, I’m learning it’s about much more than that. I was in a bad headspace when I first started crafting my vision for the brand in 2017. I didn’t know it, but at the time I was going through anxiety and depression, so I focused on creating to distract myself from those feelings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it’s been anything but smooth. The most difficult part of it all is building an operating system that works best for my brand. Even though there have been setbacks along the way (money wasted, relationships lost, etc.), I still believe I’m walking the path God has set for me. I can only adjust & focus on what I have control over.

I’m still in the process of building creative confidence. Creative confidence can only come from executing ideas. So in order to become more, I have to do more & be more (which isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world, but I’m adjusting more each day).

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“Do Better Clothing” aka “Do Better…They’re Watching” is a creative, high-quality streetwear brand with a unique approach of inspiring others to simply do better.

There’s no clothing brand that promotes a positive message based off of their name alone. I want to inspire others to simply do better & be better people in this world.

No matter what you do or how insignificant it may seem, someone is will take notice.

I believe I found my true purpose this year. I used to think it was to create a clothing brand, become successful and live life the way I wanted. I realize that’s not true at all. I’ve been blessed to realize I was placed on this earth to inspire and influence an entire generation to do better & be better.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always pretty chill, reserved & observant. I wouldn’t say much, but my style stuck out, so when I did people took notice.

Not many people knew me unless I wanted to know them, but they knew of me. I was the kid who didn’t talk too much but didn’t have a problem talking.

Growing up I was & still am interested in streetwear/design/fashion & sports. In a perfect life, my career would blend these interests.
