Today we’d like to introduce you to Lace “The Hands”.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was a little girl from Florence, SC playing on pots and pans on her grandmother’s kitchen floor. I was two years old with the knowledge that any two-year-old would have, however I sought interest in beating on items rather than going to play with toys, kids or try any other activities. I was gifted with my first drum set at seven years old and later progressed to teaching myself how to play marching snare drum and more instruments outside of drumming. I walked up to the church piano during a Sunday service as a middle school teenager not knowing how to play nor where to begin and used one finger to tap each key. Soon after that year I developed interest in piano and added that into my daily routine of music. In 2007 I pursued musical production, I was fourteen so I did not have a clue on how to start a song. I attempted to write song lyrics but quickly found my writing to be distasteful which resulted in me throwing my lyrics in the trash, My father encouraged me to keep my paper rather than throwing everything away so that I could learn and adjust as I created music.
From 1994 until currently I am proud to say that I am still active in music, in fact more active than I have ever been which makes me appreciate the adversity, the criticism, every struggle, every tear and every accomplish more and more each day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a woman in a drumline was definitely not always easy. I was faced with challenges such as being called weak, being called out of my name by both girls and boys, criticized, challenged in skill to using those emotions of anger, passion and pursuit to build a platform from. Those rough roads molded and shaped me into the woman that I am today, the woman who became invincible to negativity as well as humble to all positivity.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a musician, a singer-songwriter, poet, actress, author, producer, a director over her music videos and more. I specialize in the art of music and its creativity. Most people know me as “the drummer” or “the little girl from North Vista”, I can say that I am mostly proud of the woman that I have become so far and more proud of the woman that I am continuing to become day by day within music.
It is hard to speak on what I feel sets me apart from others simply because I have never been the type to brag nor too much speak on my capabilities. However, I am able to say that with the talents, gifts and abilities that God bestowed upon me I feel like my spirit and humility among the many accolades that God has awarded me with overtime sets me apart in a way that represents maintaining poise, dignity and confidence rather well.
Any big plans?
