Meet Allison Barchichat of East Cobb Tutoring Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Barchichat.

Hi Allison, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2010, I had “three under three,” and paying for daycare while teaching high school math would have been a wash. Expecting to return to the classroom, I began tutoring to keep my skills sharp and keep up with changes in the curriculum.

So many people needed math help! I tutored as much as I could, but I still had to turn people away. It pained me to see parents & students so stressed and I hated saying no. That’s when I decided to hire someone to help. I only worked with the high school students, and elementary school teacher Doyin Ayoola worked with the younger kids.

Now in 2022 East Cobb Tutoring Center is at a brick and mortar location, with virtual tutoring available for students all around the world. Our vision is to create the next generation of successful, confident, less-stressed graduates.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During the pandemic, we really struggled. When school was virtual (and parents found out grades didn’t count), no one wanted a tutor. We reopened slowly with many of our tutors opting to stay virtual only. The silver lining was of course the ability to have virtual tutoring. This is something we never offered before the pandemic and now makes up about 40% of our work.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The tutors at East Cobb Tutoring Center are valued for their classroom teaching expertise and only tutor in their own fields. Our tutors have the freedom to choose their own materials, methods, and teaching style. We encourage tutors to collaborate with each other.

Our courses offered range from kindergarten all the way through college! We help students thrive by teaching good study habits along with content mastery. Students that need help with executive functioning skills work with our tutors to organize their notes and create a study plan. Most importantly, we treat all students, staff, and client families with dignity and empathy.

Our clients return year after year & refer us to their friends.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
No luck was involved in this story – just good old-fashioned hard work.
