Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hart.
Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Thinking back on when and how my aspirations began, I must include my childhood. Just like you, perhaps, I noticed little gifts, talents, and abilities within me as a youngster. As the years went on, my ability to draw increased. My love for music never faded. My desire to speak in front of listening ears remained. And lastly, my passion for writing only got stronger.
Because my story is so multi-layered, it’s hard to create a chronological order of events. Just know this – I absolutely LOVE what I do. Between my main career and all of my hobbies and aspirations, my heart is filled with purpose.
Simply put – I have 5 jobs! I am an Architectural Draftsman. I am a DJ/MC in metro Atlanta. I am an Inspirational Bestselling Author. I am an Author Coach. And I am a Public Speaker.
In 2021, I finally decided to become a small business owner of J. Hart Productions which has helped me organize ALL that I do. And believe me… It’s a lot.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has my journey been a smooth road? Hmm. It’s all perspective. It depends on what we consider smooth. I would honestly say that my journey has been purposeful. Every setback, U-Turn, speed bump, pothole, accident, detour, dead end, red, yellow, or green light has been a reason to press forward. That’s what we do right? We press forward in life. We either win or we learn… No losing on this journey. Every obstacle or challenge is just that. An obstacle or challenge. We were made to accomplish fantastic feats in this lifetime. I refuse to let some raindrops on the pavement distract me from achieving my purpose – which is to put God first in all that I do, stick to my field of study, and live out my dreams. No obstacle is greater than my purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since a kid, I knew I was gifted in the Arts. I used to draw everywhere – in school, in church, in my room. You name it! I am sure this is why the Architecture Field is so fitting for me. Design and structure is what I enjoy. Today as an adult, I work for Rocklyn Homes (a residential builder in metro Atlanta) and I am even more confident than ever that the Arts is where I belong.
As you may know, literature and poetry play a huge role in the Arts as well. Since elementary school, I remember not only creatively writing my own fictional stories but also illustrating the pages within the homemade book projects. It wasn’t until my senior year of college when I experienced a “rainy season” in my relationship that I decided to take my journal entries and compose a full-blown fictional novel to be published. Little did I know my debut would become a #1 inspirational bestseller on Amazon in 2009. Years later in 2013, I released book 2, Life, Love, and God: Poetry Vol 1. And then in 2021, my first illustrated children’s book and platform would be created, The Three Little Pigs Learn About Money. It’s by God’s grace that I have many more books coming down the pipeline and I cannot wait to complete one at a time as the years roll on. My goal is to help other aspiring authors along the way.
Now when it comes to music, it makes sense that I am a DJ. As far back as I can remember, I recall hearing my father play Motown music all throughout the house in Newport News, Virginia. It’s hard not to love good music when your soul gets a daily fix of timeless classics as a kid. That hunger is still here. For over a decade now, I have had the privilege of being the chosen DJ for weddings, birthday parties, school events, family reunions, corporate events, holiday parties and more. I have learned that music simply makes every occasion better. Let me be clear… GOOD music makes every occasion better. Lol.
Because I am an Artsy kind of guy, you may be wondering if I play an instrument or have a singing ability. The answer is a quick NO. But I do have a love for public speaking. As a kid, I wasn’t the class clown, but I was always best friends with them. I would talk and talk and talk in class. And as you can imagine, yes I would get in trouble. Yet, once I knew that my talking ability could be controlled, I have since been extremely productive with choosing the words that leave my mouth. Public speaking is an art found within the Arts. Get it? Thankfully, I got it. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything…
I personally believe – God allowing me to be so well-rounded has been what has set me apart. This is perhaps what I am most proud of. It’s my versatility that makes me unique.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
This world is an interesting one nowadays. It’s not like what it used to be, for sure. Today’s generation of Creatives can get so caught up and distracted. When we notice the giftings within, it is our job to pay attention to them. Even if no one else calls them out for what they are – it is up to you and I to say, “I can do THIS well.”
Self-motivation is something I share with young people often on stage. It is not a small package you can buy in the store, or find on a shelf, or add to your online Amazon shopping cart. It is something special. Yes, it is something that can evolve over time, but one thing is certain, when you got it, you got it. No one has to motivate you and be that voice in your ear when it becomes full-blown. You, my friend can have the prize of self-motivation. It is a wonderful possession to own. Believe me. I own it.
My suggestion is this: when you pray at night and thank God for forgiving your sins, ask Him for self-motivation – it’s connected to His grace. While you’re at it, pray for faith and wisdom too. You will need it along your journey.
