Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Mckibben.
Joel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Cordova Jeans Company started by just wanting to design clothes for myself. Sometimes I have a hard time finding the perfect piece to complete my outfits and I use to joke and say “ I just need to make my own clothes”. When I did start the line, I was getting so many positive feedback and when I would say this is my clothing line they would ask where could they purchase it. It became bigger than just me and I just started to branch out little by little and now we are here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has its ups and downs. I may get my inventory later than expected or when I do receive my inventory it’s not how I designed or the fitting is off. Then on the business aspect, some months sales are doing good and then it slows down for a while. Ultimately it’s worth it. I love doing what I do so the passion for it conquers all.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I drive trucks for a living. That’s what funds my clothing line. I sketch in my free time of anything from nature to clothing design. I believe that’s what sets me apart from everyone else as far as my clothing line goes. I’m always think of the next design. My creations are unique and pair that with top-tier material and it’ll catch the eye of anyone looking. I don’t strive to be the best I’m just enjoying what I do. That makes a difference also.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe everything happens for a reason. Good or bad. I’ve just learned to see the silver lining and each situation. There’s a cause and effect to everything you do in life. Hard work always pays off. It doesn’t work, it wasn’t meant to be or at least right now. All you can do is be consistent, work hard and keep your head up.
