Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Alexander.
Hi Kristy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Apple Rose Beauty was birthed out of two passions: my desire to provide high-performance organic skincare for sensitive-skinned, fragrance-sensitive beauties like me and my heart to end human trafficking.
Growing up with an organic garden in Trinidad and Tobago, my parents had natural remedies for everything. I developed an appreciation for the power of nature to impact our skin and dreamed of starting my own cosmetic company one day – one with products that would provide real relief for my oily, acne-prone skin issues and wouldn’t overpower me with strong scents or irritate my sensitive skin.
After working in engineering, retail category management and business strategy for over a decade, I left my career to travel the world, volunteering for a year.
During this trip, I volunteered with an organization that helped rescue women from human trafficking, housed and employed them. I lived with these survivors, held their babies and saw, up close, the horrific circumstances that led to being trafficked and the trauma that resulted from it.
My heart broke for the cause, and I decided to create a company that would not only provide powerful beauty remedies with ingredients that pay homage to my Caribbean roots and world travel but also provide options and opportunities for women coming out of human trafficking.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship if full of highs and lows, ups and downs. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart but I learn a lot about myself and grow personally while building a business that I love. I’ve encountered struggles from supply chain issues to marketing roadblocks, not to mention having to pivot our business model through a pandemic. But I’ve learned to lean into challenges. One of my favorite quotes is, “The obstacle is the way”. I’ve found that when I focus on what the challenge is teaching and where it is directing the business, though painful at times, the results are always rewarding.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I always say Chemistry was my first love. When I was 15 years old, we analyzed face powder in chemistry class and I said, “This is what I want to do. I want to start and build a successful cosmetics company one day.” I wrote a life plan then that included steps all the way down to getting A’s that semester. Yes, I was one of those “planner” kids. It’s cool to look back and see that I am living the dream of my teenage self.
