Daily Inspiration: Meet Alexus Long

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexus Long.

Hi Alexus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a 21 years old Independent artist, model and cosmetologist with my main focus being the Music Industry. I began rapping at the age of nine and started taking it serious in 2016 when my remix to SZA’s “The Weekend” went viral. I posted weekly with the hopes to build a fan base and tell my story. Music has always been a safe haven for me to confide in while expressing my feelings, thoughts, and emotions. I was raised by my father and although he tried his, best growing up was always a struggle. But life’s adversities is what made me fall in love with music. I never have really liked to share my personal issues with others so my outlet has always been writing to a tune or listening to one. I battled with depression almost my entire life… But once I began to read messages and comments from others around the world relating to my story it made me want to continue to speak up and bring awareness to mental health as well as show others that even through the storm you can still overcome and win in the end. Sept 30th, 2021 I had my first show and was in awe at the love and support I received from. It felt like a slight glimpse into the future. I can’t wait to continue to thrive and grow into the woman I know I have the potential to be! Hopefully, soon I’ll be on tour or hosting a meet in greet in a city near you! Some know me as @Coleworldalexus, but I have now transitioned into @Alexustherapper, Alexu$, and or Big Lex. If you don’t know me now then you will be hearing about me!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an Independent female artist has been a TOUGH journey. From people not taking me serious because of my gender and/or age to people saying the ONLY way I’ll become successful in this industry is to sexualize myself. Staying true to you has to be one of the hardest parts of this industry. And I feel like that because it is easy to conform when opportunities present themselves. But that’s when you have to make the decision to be someone you are not or risk an opportunity by remaining true to self. I have always been big on being authentically and unapologetically ME. I’m not signed, no labels and management are behind me so everything I’ve done to make it where I am today has come from me investing in myself, motivating myself as well as managing myself. And although I make it look easy, it gets very overwhelming, but I make sure to keep a tunnel vision so I never fall off track.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Rapper, singer, model and cosmetologist. I have already begun my cosmetology career, so my main focus is my music. During the day, I do natural hair from locs, silk presses to two-strand twists. And by night I am looking for open mics to practice and perfect my crafts, going to the studio to plan and create as well as looking for opportunities and networking with new people. I am well known as @Coleworldalexus on Youtube, Google, etc. for my raps and funny videos. I made my mark around 2017 when I posted a rap video with my pet snake in my hand. I am most proud of how far I’ve come despite all of life’s tests and trials. It was many days I felt like giving up but it speaks volumes when you can step back and think about how much you have and will achieve. I’m also proud of the confidence and self-esteem I’ve obtained throughout the years. It radiates so much that others wish to be as unapologetic about life like I am.

What matters most to you? Why?
I think what matters the most to me is my story…When you are faced with so many adversities in life and you’re able to build up the courage and the strength to keep going no matter how bad it looks… that’s dedication. That’s real love…And becoming an adult, I realized I never really got to see or learn what real love is. I had to gain that love for myself and teach myself how to love myself unconditionally enough to not give up. I had so many dark days and lonely nights alone. And being alone can make you feel like you have nobody. But when you remember and remind yourself of all the times, you fell and picked yourself back up again… You have now created a story that can make history and save lives of those who lose hope. And that’s why my story is so important to me because I know it can touch so many people who are just like me.
