Life & Work with Sasha Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Owens.

Hi Sasha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Oh wow, at the moment I am adjusting to my newest transitions. A lot of opportunities presented themselves as I am one of the faces of (PDC Brands) Cantu Beauty. I worked strategically for things like this since I was a teenager. I danced in talent shows and acted in plays. It was in 2015 that I decided to move to ATL and expand my career. Pretty much from background, to content creation, to leads… I’ve made it.

I’m also an author. I wrote poetry books and new adult novels prior to childbirth. Post-childbirth I added on children’s books. I love everything that I do and I am so proud of me. I also do screenwriting as I was taught by Chris Offutt at my Alma Mater, Ole Miss.

Lastly, I sum all of this up being a content creator. Gosh, I love my socials. Tiktok especially made us fall in love during Covid. Tiktok brought out the fun in us. So yeah, that’s me. That’s Sasha Owens. I’m honored to be featured. Thank you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It depends on which way you choose to look at it. *laughs* My life started hard, but this was mentally. My father was murdered at eight and my mom committed suic*de at 17. So after that, it was pretty much me and God. I always knew I’d be successful and I kept going. My Mom would attend all my shows and tell me how proud of me she was. In my heart/head…she still does.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actress, author, and content creator. I am bold. David Talbert was the 1st director to tell me that. It expanded as my career grew. I am vitiligan like Michael Jackson. (A skin condition where my tone changes to a lighter color) I didn’t let that change my confidence and because of this people continually fall in love with me. I love my boldness and confidence. In addition, this particular thing is what inspired my book, “Spotted”. It is amazing and focuses on anti-bullying and self-love.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I don’t have a set mentor because I listen to anyone who has something I’d love to learn. I love knowledge, even to the point I will say I am a sapiosexual. Teach me. I’m listening. But I will give some tips that I was taught. One from the South. When someone tells you something but some of it wasn’t useful, “Take the meat and spit out the bones/seeds.” Certain people say it differently. One is about actual meat and the other is about a watermelon etc. *laughs* You take what you can use and flow.

And my 2nd one, “Don’t take advice from someone you wouldn’t switch lives with.” Now that one, I agree but disagree a tad. I will still listen at times if they’re telling me some areas they went wrong. I hope I don’t offend anyone, but I am answering truthfully. It’s the Sagittarius in me.
