Rising Stars: Meet Michael Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mora.

Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Miami, Florida I didn’t move to Atlanta until I was about nine years old. I don’t really remember much about my time living in Miami because It was so long ago. But what I do remember is first moving to Atlanta and hearing the music and seeing how they would dance to it. The dancing caught my attention more than anything. I’d see dancing videos and would just want to learn how to do that type of dancing so I can be in one of those vids one day. Right when I came home from school, I’d look up tutorials on how to “hit dem folks”, and just learn how to hit every beat and really break down lyrics through dancing. I’d watch people like “Toosie, zaehd, mr. hotspot, shelovesmeechie, Ayo & Teo, etc.” Literally every day I was like studying their moves. But as I’m doing that, I got to thinking like bro what if I made my own song right, but as I’m making it, I make sure you’re able to dance to it and it every lyric. After that well the rest is history.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. When I first started rapping, I actually had no idea what I was doing. I had probably the worst mic ever and laptop omg it was so slow. I’d find a beat that was hard, I’d dance to it, all that. But once it was time to write lyrics, I was lost. I just didn’t know how to write and I also didn’t have my sound figured out. But while trying to figure all that out, I was struggling in school like crazy. I was never a school kid I’d always bomb my test or just never turn my work in. Which caused my mom and dad to get mad and frustrated, which then made it harder to tell them I wanted to rap. So, I ended up keeping it on the low for like a year. Then told them that I want to make music. As of right now, they take me serious with it but at first not really and that was because I didn’t show my passion for it as much as I do now. Now friends, well I got my real ones from my old neighborhood, brother/sis, and a couple from school they know who they are. They’ve held it down since day one, they know once I’m up, they are too. I cut a lot of old friends off though because they were movie kind of weirddd. The hardest challenge I’ve ever faced would have be when I found out I lost one of my close friends to suicide. I won’t get too in-depth about it because it’s hard to speak on. But she was an angel and a big push to never give up because I know she believed in me and wouldn’t want that for me. But she don’t need to worry because I’m locked and will make her proud.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make music that makes you feel good, can dance to, or just get super turnt too. I feel like I’m most known for my energy. Whether it’s through a song, a conversation, sport, gaming, or cooking. Whatever it is, I was always told I give off good energy. I am most proud of just how far I’ve gone in music. If you would’ve told me I’d have people listening to my music every day or impatiently waiting for my next drop ten years ago I wouldn’t believe you. What sets me apart from others is that I’m always me no matter where I go or who I’m around. I add me to everything I’m involved in.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me that no one know is. Dang, I don’t even know I have to think about this one. Ummm, well I don’t know if this is surprising but I am a heavyyy gamer. Like seriously video games is my thing it’s always been I would literally beat anyone in any game. If you this I’m playin ask around. It’s not a joke. Like I’m serious I’m like that forreal on the sticks stop playin.
