Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Smith.
Hi Natalie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a new Author. The title of my book is Smile on Purpose Finding Peace in the Pain. I started writing early as a teenager. I would express my feelings best using pen and paper being an only child not having much interaction with many this was the only way I knew to get my feelings out. I knew I wanted to write a book one day; I just didn’t know how I would make that happen. It wasn’t until later in life through many life-changing experiences pushed my pain into purpose. I went to a writer’s retreat hosted by Dr. Oliver T Reid known as the writing coach. He inspired me to put that pain into the pages and write my first book. I was giving the instructions to format my book in 3 days and completed the manuscript in less than a month… In the process of writing, I set up my own business to give life support from my own past experiences to those in situations ships unsure of how to navigate through their pain while making hard decisions that will help find ways to become better for themselves. Focusing on mindset changes has helped myself and others realize the importance of taking care of one’s self before helping others in order to become more effective in everything we do in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I suffered from depression for many years growing up with a father who battled PTSD from being a Vietnam Vet. He eventually died in my presence. Searching for love and trying to fulfill emptiness through toxic relationships that ended up causing me heartache and losing myself. Working hard as a single mother trying to maintain positive every day with a smile while encouraging others fighting through my own issues daily was a true struggle but helping others gave me hope. It wasn’t until I lost almost everything becoming heartbroken and homeless. I had to gain enough strength to find my voice again and that is what pushed me to share my story in order to help others to see they are not alone. Therapy and Therapeutic writing helped me find my voice again.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
