Conversations with Cryss Simmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cryss Simmons.

Hi Cryss, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey Everybody! Thanks for checking in and reading our story. And thanks to VoyageATL for having me back for a quick update. Lamb and Honey is a rebrand and relaunch from our previous company which was dissolved in 2020. And we are so excited to be sharing our purpose, impacting lives and helping people keep their skin glowing! We initially started back in 2012 and things were going well but we decided to rebrand in 2020. We prepped all year (yes, during the pandemic) and then launched in August 2021. It was the best decision we ever made. We found our why! We realized and narrowed down our what and who!

Lamb and Honey is created in faith and inspired by legacy. The Lamb references God and Honey is my Granny, AKA Honeybird. She taught me everything I know relative to mixing herbs, oils and butters. She made sure our skin was glowing at all times and without blemish through her recipes. As I got older, I wanted to honor God and Granny with my business, so Lamb and Honey was created. Our vision is to illuminate the outer you while loving and elevating the inner you. It’s important for us to make an impact on people’s lives and we get to do it by giving people real-life biblical truth they can apply to their lives from the affirmations written alongside of each of our products. Additionally, we understand the importance of what you put on your body is just as important as what you in your body – that’s why we create products from quality natural ingredients that work!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Today’s struggle is not yesterday’s struggle. Today, we are building and growing. And when growth happens, a team is necessary. I’m not good at everything nor do I want to be everything to everyone. It’s important to build the right team – you know, people with solid qualifications that can add value when they’re invited to the table. I’ve learned building a team is not easy and one hand most definitely can’t clap alone. Choose wisely and implement a strategy when building the team. Make sure the team understands the mission and vision of the brand as it provides guiding principles which turn into attainable goals. Set the ground rules, roles and responsibilities and establish clear systems, processes and workflows. This will alleviate frustration on both sides which hopefully, will diminish the amount of challenges faced.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, our products are handmade in our Atlanta studio. We specialize in and are especially proud of creating products that actually work in addition to using ingredients you can pronounce. If you have a skin condition like eczema, our Eden Body Souffle will help heal your skin. If you have an issue with stretch marks, scars or dark spots, our Trinity Belly Boob and Booty Oil will help reduce their appearance to help provide a smoother skin texture all while maintaining skin elasticity.

What sets us apart is that we take special care in our formulas. We blend oils and butters with herbs, extracts and vitamins to provide the best body and skincare for every person we touch. We pride ourselves on receiving those 5 star reviews because our products are unmatched!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Every visionary who decided to start a business is a risk taker. They decided to take a leap of faith and jumped! With us living in a world of uncertain times, not taking the risk is risky! But, what I have learned is without a faith walk, you don’t reap the reward. Risk requires a mindset shift. You must be willing to do what others won’t in order to achieve your measure of success. It’s important to view risk from a space of optimism. It’s important to create opportunities with solutions, not problems. It’s important to analyze the teachable moment from the mistakes made. You can mitigate the risk utilizing foresight and what if scenarios to cover bases if something happens because you have anticipated the end result. And finally, assess if you or your business can handle the outcome. The yielded fruit may just work out in your favor. If it does, are you prepared to handle it? Counting the cost is essential.
