Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Clay.
Hi Sonya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved styling hair even as a little girl. I didn’t start in the hair care industry until many years later in 2017. I started out as a booth renter and now I am a salon owner. I love what I do and I believe God has purposed me to do what I do. I credit Him for the successful journey that I have had in this industry. He positioned me to be connected to other stylists whom I have had the privilege to glean from and enhance my skill set over the years. I have also been blessed to be a Hair Loss Practitioner. I not only enjoy creating styles for my clients, I also have the desire to help some of my clients who are experiencing hair loss by being able to give them educated answers as to what the problem might be. I consider what I do as a ministry and I am privileged to serve my clients who I believe have been assigned to sit in my chair.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There have been moments when I have wanted to quit especially in the earlier days when I didn’t have a large clientele. I’m grateful that I didn’t quit.

SoClays Haven of Beauty is a hair salon where our clients get “One on One Care For Your Hair” service. We try to maintain a peaceful atmosphere whereas the clients can come in and really be pampered and can rest hence “Haven.” When our clients sit in our chairs we purpose to treat each one with care. I have two other stylists who work and rent booths in the salon and we specialize in natural hairstyles, braid styles, protective styles, relaxed hairstyles, haircuts, etc.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the hair care industry growing even more especially in the area of hair loss. The advanced treatments for hair loss is causing strides to be made for many hair loss practitioners and trichologists.
