Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Lillian.
Hi Jack, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I started playing guitar at 14 years old, my only motivation was to write songs. I had stories inside of me that I needed to get out, and the emotion that surrounds music created the perfect avenue for me to express myself. The passion for songwriting led me to pick up bass, then drums, then eventually keyboard as well because I wanted the ability to create as many textures as I needed with multiple instruments. I’ve started playing and writing in bands when I had just started with my music journey, and at age 16 I released my first solo EP under the name “Zippermouth”. When my bands came to their natural over the past few years, I knew it was time to focus on my passion of songwriting and create my own project under my name Jack Lillian. My new music is an exploration of the rawest emotions and surreal experiences of humanity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A big challenge for me was deciding to put all my weight into my solo career. It’s a scary thing deciding to forge a path on your own, especially since I was so used to playing with bands and having multiple streams of creativity and effort. I’m learning every day how to manage all the things that I need to do on my own, and overall it’s been an extremely rewarding experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At my core, I’m a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. I like having a lot of tools at my disposal, and that is what has motivated me to pick up as many instruments as I have. I’m obsessed with creating textures in music and blending elements that seem to be opposites. Heavyness, distortion, powerful vocals; put these together with lush harmonies and shimmering melodies, and you’ve got my music.
