Exploring Life & Business with Kiko Richardson of Kiko’s Kreationz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiko Richardson.

Hi Kiko, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I kept saying I wanted chocolate-covered strawberries sent to myself but nobody ever got them, so I wanted to try it myself. I dipped my first strawberries on August 1st, 2020 for a few friends to try and they loved them! They kept asking for more and my first two weeks of dipping I sold $20 dozen every day. I kept practicing each day on my drizzle & dippings & it got better each time. It got so good I decided to make my business page Instagram. I wanted to further my skills even more so I started to join Facebook groups for chocolate treats.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it was the best rush of having orders every day, and my Instagram page was growing so fast, I gained 3000 followers in my first two months of having the page. However, what I didn’t know before was how strawberries go out of season. When they go out of season, it’s hard to find the best-looking berries, and when they do look good, they’re expensive. When I started nobody taught me anything, I learned everything myself so I had to go through trials of finding the best chocolate, figuring out the best ways to warm it up without burning it and so much more. It may seem simple to some as just dipping treats in chocolate, but it honestly takes a lot of work and detail.

As you know, we’re big fans of Kiko’s Kreationz. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Kiko’s Kreationz is a black-owned bakery business with treats available for any occasion. I make chocolate-covered treats, cheesecake desserts, cupcakes and more. What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and my creativity. I take my time with all my orders and I handle them with care. I always look for ways to perfect my craft. I want to further my brand to open my own bakery and do treats catering as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know if I would call it luck, but I am blessed. My business started small and is still small but I’ve been blessed to make so many orders, meet so many people that have recommended a friend, or that always come to me for their treats. I’m so blessed to have customers that only order their treat needs from me based how much they love and support my business.
