Daily Inspiration: Meet Windell Dobson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Windell Dobson.

Hi Windell, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Jamaica, where I started painting at the age of 14. I sold my first painting at the age of 15. I earned a track scholarship, which brought me to the United States. I then earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

I believe art is life in its purest form. As an abstract artist, I’m most proud that my artwork evokes emotion. People often write me to share how my art has affected their personal lives. For example, they’ve shared that “Faces de Series” has brought joy to them every time they look at it.

I’ve learned that it’s important to have self-confidence and trust my subconscious, allowing it to lead when I’m creating. I’m always innovating which leads to evolution in my artwork. For example, I experiment with materials taken from nature, manipulating them to create pieces that people have never seen used before.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I’m always innovating, that’s a challenge too. Finding that next idea that will resonate with people and complement their space is a priority for me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passion lies in being an art innovator who is continuously evolving with my focus as a minimalist abstract artist. I’m always developing new techniques and styles, enhancing art by making expression easier, clearer, and more recognizable. I’m committed to creating art that’s admired and commissioned through various channels, which has allowed me to work closely with premier interior designers.

My work is timeless, minimal, modern, and engaging. I approach each piece of work with an authentic vision and passion for simplicity and design.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family brings me great joy. Traveling the world and seeing all it has to offer, particularly visiting museums that provide inspiration and seeing the work of some of the masters. And starting my day with an early morning workout makes me happy. A workout to me is like that first cup of coffee to some people. It gets my day going.
