Today we’d like to introduce you to Davina Carter-Wilson.
Hi Davina, can you start by introducing yourself? We would love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, I had a few businesses before. In 2014, I became a Zumba instructor and I decided to get various certifications in dance and fitness. I started a program with a friend of mine Lisa Pitts called 2 Inspired 2 B Tired & Loving Life. The programs we had helped people get fit while having fun. We accommodated the whole family within these programs as well. At every event we had we would donate to different charities. The awards that I have received within my community are 2018 HCS Health Hero and 2019 ACHI Magazine Health & Fitness Award 2017 -2018. My business took another turn, but this time I went to get certified in motivational speaking and coaching. Many of my clients needed more than just help with their fitness goals. They were not reaching their fitness goals due to other things in their lives that were blocking them. I reached out to the Les Brown program where I became certified under Les Brown Unlimited as a speaker, trainer, and coach. This was an amazing time. I got to meet so many people from all around the world when I traveled to Deerfield, Florida for the courses.
In 2020 the pandemic hit, and it was tough to see the world change right before my eyes. While people were stuck in the house, I was working in the nursing field with many titles such as CNA, recruiter, staffing coordinator, payroll, and HR assistant. In the beginning when COVID-19 hit, so many of my staff were out of work because they had contracted it or someone in their family did. I think about it now thanking God for keeping my mind safe through this whole pandemic. While we were short staff, I rolled up my sleeve to help to work at 2 different facilities. This is when my eyeglasses come in. Back years ago, I was working on the floor as a CNA and got an infection in my eye. I had to see a doctor because my eye was burning so badly…The doctor gave me medicine and goggles back then. I refused the goggles because they were ugly and that is when I started looking for cute eyeglasses to protect my eyes. I would shop everywhere to find nice eyeglasses. Once I found them that was when people would always notice me because of my dope finds. In the beginning of 2021 people were asking me where I get my eyeglasses and how they could find and purchase some. I decided to open an eyeglasses business called Divine Vision Frames. My first order of frames sold out and from there the word got out that I was the eyewear guru. I have been seen at several events from birthdays, BBQs, conferences, comedy shows, fashion shows and concerts all over. Ever since I have been thanking God for giving this gift.
Would you say it has been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you have faced along the way?
I still work a full-time job. It is hard managing my time with family and business. There are times I feel like I am never off because I am always on the go. I do not have employees, but my family will help when they can. It gets hard with my marketing piece. I am trying to do better with my marketing online and I will eventually need someone to help manage it for me.
All right, so let us switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I sell eyewear you can get your prescription in or wear for fashion. I am known as the eyewear guru or chic with the frames. I specialize in taking my customers to eyewear Candyland where they can buy frames in any color, shape, and size for the whole family. I am proud when I see my customers’ faces light up when they get their new frames.
