Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Richards.
Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in photography. As a young girl, I remember taking pictures with a camera my dad had laying around the house. I would take photos of images that were in magazines and wall calendars, thinking I was really doing something (lol) and enjoyed capturing a really cool image. But it wasn’t until a trip to Miami with my best friend in 2019 that I began to take photography more seriously. She said, “Erika you take amazing photos, why don’t you do this for real?” My wheels started turning then.
Not too long after, my boyfriend at the time, bought me a camera and because I had no formal training and didn’t know the technical side to the art of taking pictures, I decided to take classes and find a mentor. Through the mentorship, I gained the confidence and knowledge to really give my business a go and the rest is history!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me, but what experience is when you’re passionate about your work and really care about what is being shared with the world? I think one of the biggest obstacles that I’ve faced is the fact that I get in my own way. I’m an overthinker and a perfectionist. Those traits have held me back in the past. I wouldn’t post my work to social media or share my work with peers and potential clients because everything had to be perfect. Over the years, I learned that I have to put myself and work out there. And doing my best and being myself is all that’s needed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is all about positive experiences. Before, during and after a photo shoot, I include my clients in every step of the process. I pride myself on giving the best customer service possible and tailoring each shoot according to a client’s need. I specialize in portrait and lifestyle photography.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have my EGR Photography business and also work at a 9 to 5 job. It’s tough balancing it all but it’s worth it! I’m having fun and I really enjoy meeting and connecting with new people while capturing a moment in time.
