Hi India, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Founder and CEO of Oh Indy.
So how did Oh Indy start? Well, growing up I was always the girl into shopping, fashion, and style. I remember having a fashion designer notebook, thrifting for affordable pieces, and discovering Pinterest in middle school! This was shortly after my identical twin sister, Asia and I stopped dressing alike and were starting to build our own wardrobes.
Asia and I got a job together right after high school at a local clothing boutique which helped customers find their style. From this point on, I knew I loved retail. I wanted to continue to help women find pieces and build confidence in feeling amazing in what they wear. I enjoyed the repeat customers who would come back to have more pieces styled for them. I enjoyed the social media aspect of the business and connecting worldwide. Building relationships and seeing the way it made customers feel gave me this dream.
As my years in college went on and an employment change, that desire never went away. Owning a boutique constantly came to mind. Even after receiving my BBA degree and taking a corporate job, I still thought about this dream.
In the summer of 2022, I decided it was time to face my fears and take the leap. I was about to make “one day” into “day one.” The day before my birthday, I made a social media announcement that I was finally making this happen. I received endless support from friends, family, and boutique owners congratulating me. Most comments related to: “I remember you saying you wanted to do this, and proud that you finally did.”
My mission is to not only help women feel confident but to take a leap as well to try new things. To visualize their highest self and start showing up as her. Finding a style and cute clothes that are also affordable does not have to be a challenge. Oh Indy offers size-inclusive, trendy, quality items with YOU in mind.
Oh Indy has officially been open for a month! I cannot say thank you enough to everyone who has supported my dream, and for trusting Oh Indy! We are growing every day, and I cannot wait to see where we are years from now. I am truly blessed.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has definitely been a few bumps on the road. I took time to plan and prepare for this, which I think makes it easier. There are always those things you can’t prepare for until it happens, but that is all a part of entrepreneurship. You prepare but also take knowledge as things occur, learning what works and what doesn’t.
We’ve been impressed with Oh Indy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Oh Indy is more than just a brand. We want women to feel confident and proud of what they wear. If you need help with sizing, styling tips, an entire vacation wardrobe, chatting, etc., we are there for you! I am most proud of the inclusive styles, customer relationships, and relatability. The personable aspect of the brand is seen, and customers can relate to not only what we offer but why.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to just take the leap! People will have a negative or positive opinion, but you just have to do it for your dreams. You have to tell yourself, “are we going to keep wishing for this, or do the work and make it happen?”
You have the ability to make your dream possible! My only regret is not starting sooner.
