Life & Work with JaChrys

Today we’d like to introduce you to JaChrys.

Hi JaChrys, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been singing since I can remember. It was a talent given to us (myself, my twin brother, and my sister) by my mom and dad. Both my parents sang in the choir but my dad used to also be the lead singer for several house bands back in the 70s. Growing up, my brother and I used to perform at all the talent shows and eventually started recording in studio by age 15.

My brother and I spent years developing our sound and mastering our craft in the studio. It wasn’t until I moved to Kansas City that I started recording on my own. Growing up in Jackson, MS there was never a lot of opportunity so leaving there really helped excel my career, although it was extremely hard leaving family. I eventually move from Kansas City, MO to Dallas, TX in 2018. I moved from Dallas, TX to Atlanta a year ago (November 2021) to get in the music market here and help further advance my career. My most recent single is called “Tiger King” and is available on all streaming platforms. I am also working on a project called “The Baby Maker” which I named after my dad’s first single he recorded in the 70s in tribute to him. I plan to release it in early 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an independent artist itself is tough and if any independent artist tells you it was a smooth road, they lying. Lol. It’s a lot I didn’t know about the music industry starting out that I wish I had known. A lot of those lessons you can’t learn without experiences and bumping your head a few times. Unless you have a mentor with experience in the music industry to guide you, you are bound to have a tough road. And sometimes, even with a mentor it’s hard. Not to mention the expenses that come with being an independent artist. Marketing and production has to be very strategic when you are on a budget and funding your own projects. At the end of the day, it’s all about appreciating the process, learning, and evolving.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am JaChrys and I wear many hats. I am a musical artist amongst other things. I am a writer, a producer, an actor, a director, a choreographer, a stylist, but mainly a creator. The genres I specialize in are R&B, HipHop, and Pop. My musical influences are Drake, Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, and Anderson Paak, just to name a few. My music is very diverse but one thing for sure is that you will hear smooth, clean vocals and a unique sound that stands apart from the rest. I have had the chance to work and record with several major people in the music industry including Reuben Armstrong from Tekneko Bros. (Producer known for his work with Tech-Nine), Dewain Whitmore (writer known for his work with Chris Brown and Nick Jonas) Ty Macklin (producer and writer known for his work with Erykah Badu), Travis Cherry (producer and writer known for his work with J. Holiday and Case) and legendary rapper Mike Jones.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
The name JaChrys (pronounced J-Chris) is a mix of my first and middle name. (Jacob Christopher)
